1. CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Maingot called the presentation toorder at 7:03 p.m. He~'introduced the
City Commission, staff members and'hirnself. ' '
2. PRESENTATION-COM2; ~GRC1 W WITH US.
Mayor Maingot presented a power point entitled Come 'Grow With Us.
He outlined statistics with regards, to the City of Longwood. He stated `several
reasons for the-audience members`to grow with the City `of Longwood: ~He
outlined the three essential public services provided to their communities and the
level of assistance tfiey are currently receiving from the County: He~ stated how
Longwood could improve those essential. services: He' then gave a recap of the
level of services and additional benefits. He~ stated that it will cost the
homeowner $1.31 per day based ~on the average taxable home value of $100,000
to join the City of Longwood. Mayor Maingot invited Tom Jackson, Police Chief
to come forward and tell a little about thf: Longwood. Police Department.

Mr. Jackson stated he has been with the City of Longwood since 1977 and grew
up in the City of Longwood. He said the Law Enforcement Agency is a 40 man
agency that is State accredited. He said they provide 24 hour road patrol, traffic ~
control, investigative division, school resource officer, elderly assistance officers,
community policing officers, and have a full spectrum of services to the
community. He stated they have a program called, "Are you o.k.?" He said this
program focuses on citizens with special needs that may not have relatives living
in the area and who are dependent on medical services or special needs services.
He said they arrange their visitation based on the needs of the resident. He said
while they are visiting they access the situation and also serve as a liaison
between them and their medical needs. He said this program was very helpful
during the recent~storms. He said they formed an electronic house watch. program
and will go by the house while the resident is away: He said the City's proposal is
to place one officer in your neighborhood. He said the Law Enforcement
Program is tailored and customized to the needs of the community. Mr. Jackson
answered questions from the audience.
Mayor Maingot invited- Laurie Mooney, Interim Fire Chief to come forward and
give an in depth cover of Fire and EMS Services the City provides.
Ms. Mooney said she began her career, in Longwood in.1983 as a firef ghter/
paramedic and worked her way up the, ranks. She -said her goal was. to
communicate. the importance of being close to their neighborhood and to outline
the services they provide:.She gave statistics from years 2004, 2005 and 2006 of
the number of times City units responded to alarms for. the Woodlands. She said ~~
they continue to respond to their community. She. stated the Fire Department's
average travel time to their community was three minutes. She said they provide
responses for fire and emergency medical services: She gave a timeline :for fire
and EMS. She outlined additional services the Fire Department provides. Ms.
Mooney answered questions from the audience.
Mayor Maingot invited Fran Meli, Recreation Program Manager to come forward
and discuss the programs the City offers to the senior citizens and youth.
Ms. Meli said Parks and Recreation provide a .quality of Life to a community. She
said they offer events such as, National Night Out, Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Fall
Festival/Haunted House, Rpck the Park, Celebrate the Tree Lighting, etc. She
said some of the programs the.City currently offers are Seniorcise, Blue Grass
Pickin', Family Movie Night, AARP Safe Driving Class, Karate,. Tennis Clinics;
Babe Ruth Baseball, and Summer Camp. She said they are offering, some new
programs this year such as, box soccer program, bowling league, clinics for
lacrosse and golf, and looking to start a flag football league with the City of
Casselberry. She Stated after the renovation of Reiter Park, they are going to offer
more activities. She said Longwood. is a community with a hometown feeling and
recreation is a big part.
Mayor Maingot thanked everyone for coming and opened the floor to any '
