Mr. Jobn Maingot

Longwood, F132780
Dear John
It was brought to our attention that tlurinq the November commission meeting a
statement was matle by Commissioner Lovestrantl that the membership of the
fre division have no problem with being consolitlatetl into the Seminole County
Fire Department This is NOT the position of OUr membership-
I was matle aware Nat Mr. Lovest2nd has spoken with a few of our newer
embers who expressetl the desire to be mnsolitlated. While these members
nre free to express Neir personal preferences. they are not representative of Ne
emit group.
Many of us wme to the fre service with the tlesire to tlo gootl things antl serve
the public. We were asketl about consolidation as early as the mitl eighties and
flatly saitl no. Our desire was to keep our indepentlence as a progressive antl
votive service.
The motivation for consolidation has resudacetl with [he younger fire(gh[ers.
who are seeking better wages antl benefits without having to wait or work for
them.
On the other hand, the reality of Station 17 being closetl, being movetl from
station to station arountl Ne county antl the upfront costs to the taxpayers of
Longwood lust to have the county take us in, just tlcesn't seem to be a good
choice for anyone concemetl. While we are now, antl have always been opposed
[o the Depadmenl of Public Safety, whloh is no more than an etldetl layer of high
salaried bureaucracy that stiFles rather than benefts the Fire Division in any
are totally opposetl to consolitlation.
Should you or any member of the commission neetl fudher clarification, please
contact me et any time.
Sincerely
Michael Resnick, pres.
