CCMtg05-03-73(SP)(WS)237 Special Session, May 3, 1973 The Longwood Cf ty Council held a special se on May 3, 19]3 at J:30 P.M. Present: William J. Kles Yy. B.N. Ferrell, Oick Crenshaw, B.L. Nelms, Mayor Jaques, Li ty Attorney. Absent: E.E. Williamson Meeting opened w'[h prayer by Mayor Jaques, followed by Salute to the Flag. Preparing the budget of expenditure for Revenue Sharing was the purpose of the m etf ng. The expenditures ar as follows: 1. Recreation Program 3,400. z. New Ponce car 4.000. 3. Pick up-Truck 2,600. 4. A Packer 13,000. 5. Front end loader 11,000. Motion by Mr. Nelms seconded by Mr. Crenshaw avtho ri zi n9 the Attorney to draft the proper Resolution for the above expenditures. Roll Call Vote: Unarm nous, motion carried. Purchase of new fire equipment was discussed. Fire Chief stated new equipment is needed. Lhi of recommended the bfd of Ward La France be accepted for the new truck. Motion by Mr. Crenshaw seconded by Mr. Ferrell to accept the resignation of R.E. Sweat with one Month severance pay. Motion carried. Mott on by Mr. tlel mz seconded by Mr. Crenshaw to approve the expenditure of $ fi4p.00 to repair the jail. Motion carried. Motion by Mr. Ferrell s tootled by Mr. Helms to employ an inventory control person at $ 60.00 per week. Motion carried. Fire Chief re amended Michael Chapman as the full paid ff reman. Motion by Mr. Crenshaw seconded by Mr. Helms authorizing the fire Chief to employ Michael Chapman as the paid Ff reman, salary of $ 6,300. per Yr. Motion carried. Motion by Mr. Nelms seconded by Mr. Ferrell to refer the plans of Longwood Sqvare to the engineer for study 8 recommendation. Motion carried. Mayor agreed to write letters to the companies involved. zsa The Cnai rman an n<ed that Bands from Lyman & Mi lwee Schools will be in Longwood for Memorial Services in the Longwood Cemetery, on May 26th. Street sf gns needed throughout the City, also street lights. A letter will be sent to Florida Power Corp with pole numbers when supplied to the City Clerk by the Street Suot. Purchase f the fire truck discussed. Final decision wf 17 be made at next meeting. June 8th. is the graduation from the "Fire Fighters Prevention School" the exercise will be held in Longwood. Meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m. Regular Session May 10, 1973 The Longwood City Councfl met in regular session, May 10 at 7:30 p.m Present: All Council members, Mayor & City Attorney Meeting gpened with prayer by Mayor Eugene Jaques, followed by Salute to the Flag. The Children naming the three parks in the City were presented gifts, the gifts were furnished by the Fire Oept. Ladies Auxill ary. Mrs. Barbara Farley reported on the sumo rea tion program. Mrs. JoAnn He ims. Oavitl Higgins. Track Coach at Lyman 8 CoachrJack 8l anton have also been employed to supervise the activities at the Parks. A Film on Slurry Seal for streets was presented by Mr. "Bud" Jdl nson. The Mayor recommended the matter be referred to the street conmi ttee for reconmendati on. Mr. Rod Cable, President Longwood Chamber of Commerce quil toed plans for beautifi- cation of City Parks, a project of the Chamber, and requested permission to clean the grounds near the Cemetery. Councfl approved. Letter from D.O.T. Re: Li ty Street 8 County Road Oedi cations. The Dept. has nu s storm se r systems that utilize city street 8 county road dedications for drainage of State Primary & Secondary Roads. They have lateral out- fall ditches that parallel roadways constructed on these dedications and it is semi al tha the Oept. use these roadways to maintain the ditches. There have been nuances where the city or county tledi cati on5 nave been vacated without advising the O.O.T. The Dept. requested notifi catf on of street or roads being Hsi de red for abandonment, ine also requested hearing from the city as to the procedure ou Clinetl in the letter. No action Laken on the matter. Letter from Mr. Clark L. Human, Re: Water standing in the ditch behind his house sing sw s of mosquitoes. Mr. Human stated this was a very real Health hazzard tgetne w un; ty. Mosquito ontrol fn the city waz discussed, purchase of fogging equipment is being considered. Matter was referred to the Mayor. Letter from Joseph 0. Robinson, Jr. Vice President. Lake Nan, Inc. Re: Clearing of trees within the Slade Orive r/w in the new S/D., the Moorings. The letter stated many trees will be saved as possible, clearing only those that actually interfere with the installation of sewer mains, water mains, 8 paving.
