The Longwood City Councfl met in regular session, May 10 at 7:30 p.m
Present: All Council members, Mayor & City Attorney
Meeting gpened with prayer by Mayor Eugene Jaques, followed by Salute to the Flag.
The Children naming the three parks in the City were presented gifts, the gifts
were furnished by the Fire Oept. Ladies Auxill ary.
Mrs. Barbara Farley reported on the sumo rea tion program. Mrs. JoAnn He ims.
Oavitl Higgins. Track Coach at Lyman 8 CoachrJack 8l anton have also been employed
to supervise the activities at the Parks.
A Film on Slurry Seal for streets was presented by Mr. "Bud" Jdl nson. The Mayor
recommended the matter be referred to the street conmi ttee for reconmendati on.
Mr. Rod Cable, President Longwood Chamber of Commerce quil toed plans for beautifi-
cation of City Parks, a project of the Chamber, and requested permission to clean
the grounds near the Cemetery. Councfl approved.
Letter from D.O.T. Re: Li ty Street 8 County Road Oedi cations.
The Dept. has nu s storm se r systems that utilize city street 8 county road
dedications for drainage of State Primary & Secondary Roads. They have lateral out-
fall ditches that parallel roadways constructed on these dedications and it is
semi al tha the Oept. use these roadways to maintain the ditches. There have been
nuances where the city or county tledi cati on5 nave been vacated without
advising the O.O.T. The Dept. requested notifi catf on of street or roads being

Letter from Mr. Clark L. Human, Re: Water standing in the ditch behind his house
sing sw s of mosquitoes. Mr. Human stated this was a very real Health hazzard

Mosquito ontrol fn the city waz discussed, purchase of fogging equipment is being
considered. Matter was referred to the Mayor.
Letter from Joseph 0. Robinson, Jr. Vice President. Lake Nan, Inc. Re: Clearing of
trees within the Slade Orive r/w in the new S/D., the Moorings. The letter stated
many trees will be saved as possible, clearing only those that actually interfere
with the installation of sewer mains, water mains, 8 paving.

The appraisal of the property on East Warren Ave. w redd by the Mayor. The
appraf sers, Mr. Tally Hattaway & James Gamble placedsa value of $ 10,000.00 on
the property. Motion by Mr. Crenshaw seconded by Mr. Ferrell to table the matter.

ReDOrt on Insurance for City Employees given by Mr. Ferrell. He stated that the
Prudential Insurance offered the best plan. A meeting wa scheduled for fri day
May 11th. at 4:00 p.m. with employees 8 a represen tati vesof the Insunance Lo.

to the General Fund. Motion carried.

of an exati on. Mr. Wm. Palm, City Enyi neer, outlined terms of an agreement to be
entered into provided an exation is accomplished.

the Sanford-Orl and0 Kennel Club with the above conditions, the Mayor be authori ied

Mr. Ferrell stated that the city should have an agreement in writing from Mr. Hobbs
that he will be able to furnish sewage by November, o n agreement with the Kennel
Club to provi tle land for a sewer plant in the event theaci ty has to provide a plant.

land to be used fora "back-up site" fora ewage plant.

Mrs. Olive Arnoitl canpla toed about the water rates, pue to the fact that
there is o sliding scale her bill had doubled. Council advised Mrs. Arnold

was having difficulty meeting expensese
Mr. Ritter complained about the Junk Cars on Hwy 42] at O.L.M. La nds ca pi n9.
Mayor Jaques announced the matter will be resolved by June 1.
Mr. Williamson stated that the city is sn dire need of a front end loader.
Mr. Williamson also called attention to the odor coming from the juice plant
located at the intersection of SR 42] 8 Nwy 434. the city will request the
dept. of Pollution Control to take action to stop Sun-Pat Juice Co, from
dumping waste into a drainage ditch which drains into a Lake.
Water Supt. requested purchase of 4-1" Meters and 2-2" Meters. Total price
of $ ]29.00
Motion by Mr. Helms seconded by Mr. Crenshaw authorizing Mr. Fisher to purchase
the Meters. Motion carried.
