~,~. Regular Session June 1, 1967 TRe Longwood City Council met in regular session June. 1, at 8:.00 P.M. Present: Donald-Conway, Paul Maloney, H.A. Scott, Eugene Jaques, E.E. Williamson, Mayor Lormann Absent: Attorney, Gene R. Stephenson ° Meeting called to order by Chairman 'Williamson, minutes of previous meeting read & approved as corrected. ° Mr. F.J. Zart~r~an. was present with his. Attorney seeking an answer to the matter of compensation due to the fact that the City had .opened Credo Street across his property and he had continued to pay taxes for a number of years. The sum of $1,500.00 had been asked. by the ° Zsrtman family, The Attorney stated that no answer had been received .and was anxious to get the matter settled.- The Attorney requested the City Council to make a counter offer within the next 30 days. The Council & Mayor assured him that something-would be .done with- in that time, Mr. T.S. Aeyward Jr, representing the Peninsula Insurance Co. was present to explain group insurance for city employees & council. members. A. meeting will be arranged in the very near future to discuss the. matter in detail. Mr. John Perkins was present and wanted to know what had happened to the petition submitted. to the council on May 23, 19b3 request- ing the paving of Short & Park Avenues to Wilma Street, The Council stated that something would have to be done with,tha drainage from the Railroad & State Road 434. Mayor Lormann agreed to get with the. City Attorney & write the A~~antic Coast Line R.R. & the State Road Dept, regarding the matter. . The trash pick-up was discussed. Mr, .Fisher., City Supt. stated that it would continue as.agreed in the minutes of the April meeting.- '~ The Deed from Nlrs. Sadie Pi~oehl was found to be in ®rder & could be accepted by the city. Moved by Mr. Maloney seconded by Mr. Conway to accept the said deed of Mrs. Proehl deeding 25 ft of Oleander Street to the City. I-iotion carried. The report of the police dept. was read by Mayor Lormann. Moved by Mr. Jaques seconded by Mr. Scut to pay Chief Shinn tw© weeks pay ,in Lieu'of a vacation. Motion carried. A letter from Mr. Cliff Borneman stating that his Client would deed to the City a strip of land fifty f t. ~=ide so that Georgia Ave. could be extended from Grant Street to Credo Street, .also a twenty-five foot strip on the East end of Lot 4, of A. Meuser's subdivision, ~~3~Complete the 50 ft. of Credo Street. This to be done if the city will cut, grade, fx clay the Streets within 60 days, after the deed is prepared.' Also a water line & water miters be installed to cost no more .than $ 9®.~0 per meter. The council stated that everything was acceptable except the claying of the Streets within fro days. The matter was tabled for father study discussion. A letter from~the engineer stating that Reider Avenue was complete and was acceptable, was read by the chairman. Moved by Ntr. Chairman ~rTilliamson announced a public hearing on the the paving of Reider Avenue for Ju_*ae 15th at 8;®0 p.a~. in city hall to hear any complaints regarding the assessments, Mr. Jaques announced that specifications on a naw fire truck were completed and ready"to be sent out far bids. Mowed by Mr. ` Jaques seconded by Mr. Scott to call for bids on a new truck, bids to be returned within 30-days, Motion. car-ried, The monthly fire report was read by Mr, Jaques. Moved by Mr, Jaques seconded by Mr. Maloney to donate $ 50,00 to the little league. Motion carried. Moved by Mr. Conway. seconded by Mr. Scott to accept the G.P.A. report for the first 6 months of this fiscal year & pay the bills. Motion. carried. Moved by Mr. Scott seconded by Mr. Jaques to transfer $ 5,004.00 from the paving fund into the,genaral fund to be used to build a police station. An application for employment in the street dept. by Robert Mathews was reviewed by the council. Moved by Mr. Jaques seconded by Mr. Maloney to employ Mr. Mathews at a salary of $2.00 per hr. effective June 5th, Motion carried. Mr.:Maloney requested the Mayor to contact the Attorney regarding attending counciir::meetngs, he stated that the Attorney was being paid & should attend the meetings, Moved by Mr. Maloney seconded by Mr. Gonway to pay the City Glerk two weeks pay in lieu of a vacation. Motion carried. MrA Ralph Fisher gave. some figures ors the cost of producing water by the city, He stated that the city was losing honey on the present rates & proposed that the min, bill be raised from the. present $ 2,20 to $ Z,SO per mo. also,a ten cent raise on amounts over the min. After a discussion the matter .was tabled for father study. Mr. Jaques stated that instead of raising water rates the city try to annex more territory as a means of additional revenue. Mr, Maloney agreed to contact the Humane Society regarding some kind of an agreement with the city on the°care of stray dogs. He will art his findings at the next meeting. A public.hearing was held June 15 at 8:00 p,m. in the City Hall for the purpose of hearing complaints or questions on the paving of Reider Avenue. , Present:. Paul Maloney, Donald Conway, H,A, Scott, Eugene Jaques, Mayor Lormann, Absent: E.E. 6~Tilliarnson, ~. Meeting called tb order by Eugene Jaques_ acting Chairman. The assessment roll was read by the Clerk. Several questions 6aere asked but no objections to the paving .project were registered. Moved by Mr. Scott seconded by ~Ir, Conway to accept the street.
