AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD,
FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 30, ELECTIONS,
SECTION 30 -4 (a) TO REVISE THE ELECTIONS
QUALIFYING PERIOD; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS, SEVERAD>ILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined it is necessary to change the
qualifying period for an elector to become qualified to run in City elections; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission believes this change would serve in the best
interest of the electors who choose to run; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission believes this change will provide for a smooth
administration of the City's elections process;
NOW, TIIERFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA as follows:
SECTION I . That the Code of Ordinances be amended by revising Section
30 -4 (a) in Chapter 30, Elections, to read as follows (words that. are . � are

Section 30 -4. Candidate qualifying procedures.
(a) Generally. Any elector, otherwise duly qualified pursuant to state law and
the city charter, may become a candidate for the office of city commissioner by filing an
application with the city clerk during the he city's regular business days and hours within the

seventy-eighth (78th) day prior to the municipal election and shall end at 12:00 noon on
the seventy -fourth (74th) day prior to the municipal election.
SECTION II. CONFLICTS. In the event of a conflict or conflicts between
this ordinance and other ordinances, this ordinance shall control to the extent such conflict
exists.
SECTION III. SEVERABILITY. If any section or portion of a section of
this ordinance proves to be invalid, unlawful, or unconstitutional, it shall not be held to
invalidate or impair the validity, force, or effect of any other section or part of this
ordinance.
SECTION IV . EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall take effect upon
final passage and adoption by the City Commission of the City of Longwood, Florida.
