Goff, :Recording Secretary 1. Call to Order. Chair Shoemaker called, the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Chair Shoemaker welcomed new Board Member Jonda. 2. Approval of Minutes October i', 2008 ]Regular Meeting. C;hair Shoemaker moved to approve the minutes of October 7, 2008 as presented. Seconded by Vice Cliair Driver and carried by a unanimous voice -vote. 3. Public Participation. :None. 4. Old Business. A. Recreation Mainager's Report. Ms. Mel i reported the F[alloween event 'was well attended. She said they had more children than ever before for the costume contest. She stated they would be expanding on the event next year. IVIs. Meli reported Celebrate the Season would be held Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. She said th~~ Girl Scouts would be helping with the crafts. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at 5:00 p.m. She said there would be a raffle. She stated Longwood Elementary Chorus and Woodlands Elementary Chorus would be singing Christmas Carols. There will be a dance group and a juggler.:Beef O Brady's will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs. She said the Tree Lighting is planned for around 6: L'i p.m. P&R 12-02-08/1 Chair Shoemaker said she did not see the raffle advertised or listed on the City's ~ website. Ms. Meli said she would have Mr. Capi::zi look into this and have it added. She stated the proceeds from the raffle would be used for the Longwood Families in Need. She reported boxes were out for t:he collection of canned goods. They will also collect canned goods when Santa Visits Longwood. She advised the City would be helping 18 families this year: Ms. Meli reported the Movie in the Park: would be held December 19, 2008, 6:00 p.m. at Candyland Park. The feature will be The Polar Express. She said the new Panda movie would be featured in January. Santa Visits Longwood on the east of the tracks on December 13`~ and on the west of the tracks on December 14t". She said they have added flc~ats~ this year. Colonial Bank, Police and Fire have floats that will be following the route. She advised Deputy Mayor Nlaingot will be taking trie Longwood Carolers around to the nursing homes on December 6`h. Also, on December 6`}`, the first annual Police-Fire Charity Softball Game will be played. She announced the next event will be Easter on April 4th. Ms. Meli reported the Athletic Clinics, rind Yoga classes are all doing well. The Senior Matinee is held ~~n Wednesdays and this month's movie will be It's A Wonderfzrl Life. Chair Shoemaker inquired about an eve~iing class for something like Jazzercise or ~ Line Dancing. Ms. Meli said there was not a facility available f'or evening classes. Chair Shoemaker inquired about the groundbreaking for Reiter Park. Ms. Meli said she did not know when it would be. She stated they were meeting with the contractor again this week. She said the contractor has done some value engineering and was trying to find ways to make it a more affordable project. She stated they were trying to prioritize what is more important. She said it may be done in phases. She affirmed the Park v~~ill be a wonderful addition to the Downtown. Member Putz inquired how the public ~~as being kept informed regarding Reiter Park. Chair S};ioemaker said there was inform;rtion on the City's website. She stated there wa.s still a lot of planning going ors. Ms. Meli said they should know more after Thursday's meeting. P&R ] 2-02-08/2 Member Putz said Reiter Park seems to have become an issue. He has people ask '~y him why Reiter Park is not done. Ms. Meli said it was hard to answer the questions as she was not privy to some of the decisions being madle. Ms. Mel said there would not be much Ito discuss at the January meeting. She stated the. February and March meetings would be better for planning, the Easter program and she should. have more information on Reiter Park by then. Chair Shoemaker said thhey didn't really need to meet every month. She stated the programs were pretty well mapped out. She said if any of the Board Members came up with an idea they could call M~,. Meli or make the suggestion at a meeting. She stated there were not fund:. available for the most part, as the funds were allocated. Ms. Meli advised the Budget was worked on in the spring. She said March would be a good time to discu>s if the Board Members would like to change and do some different programs. Chair Shoemaker moved to cancel the January meeting and meet in February. Seconded by Member Putz and carried by a unanimous voice vote. Ms. Meli advised the n€;~ meeting would. be February 3, 2009. 5. New Business. None. 6. Adjournment.
