1. Call to Order. Chair Shoemaker called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
2. Approval of Minutes -June 5, 2007 .Regular Meeting.
Member Hunt moved to approvr, the minutes of June 5, 2007 as presented.
Seconded by Member Uliano and carried by a unanimous voice vote with
Members Putz and Richardson ~ibsent.
3. Public .Participation. None.
Member Putz arrived at this point in thF; meeting.
4. Old Business.
A. Recreation Manager's Report.
Ms. 1Vleli gave an update on summer camp. She said Longwood helped host the
Inner City Fun Day where all of the sunnmer camps get together for one day. She
stated they had approximately 800 children attend. She reported they held a
program for the seniors where Chef Jef~`' from Chambrel did cooking.
demonstrations for lunch. They had an .AARP Driving School this summer that
was one of the largest attended events. the said Bluegrass was going well.
Chair Shoemaker inquired if Stephanie Manor was Camp Director for Summer
Camp.

Ms. Meli advised the Camp Director was injured and Ms. Manor became the
~ Camp Director.
Chair Shoemaker inquired if Ms. Ulianc? could work next year if she desired.
Ms. Meli advised they were looking into the legalities of this issue.
Ms. Meli advised they had a Harvest M~~on Ball scheduled for seniors on
Wednesday, October 3rd at the Community Building that will be held in
conjunction with Chambrel. She said Senior Matinee has been very well attended
with the time change. She reported Seniorcise has changed to Jazzercise Light.
She advised this was geared toward seniors, but it was jazzercise. They have been
averaging 15-20 people and the program has been well received.
Ms. Meli gave an update on City Parks. She said Smallworld Park opened this
past weekend. Magnolia Park was going; to have a shade cover, but, they
encountered some problems. This shade structure will be moved to Candyland
Park. Sandlewood Park's shade structure received final approval today. This
structure shades the entire play equipment. Ms. Meli reported there had been
some issues with muck at Reiter Park. She said this had been looked at by
engineers and they have found ways to deal with the matter without having to
remove. the muck. She stated there were materials that can be placed under the
_ roadway and the bathroom facilities. She advised there was only a small part of
~ the park affected. She reported this would be going out to bid in approximately
two weeks and hopefully break ground in January.
Ms. Meli advised there would be a carnival held on Halloween night. She advised
they were having difficulty finding a location fora .Haunted .House. She said
flammable materials can no longer be u::ed in the Haunted House.
Member Putz inquired if the Communit~~ Building would be available for
something like that.
Ms. Meli said it takes so long to build th.e Haunted House that the Community
Building would be down too long. She advised the Community Building was
booked Aso far in advance that it would not be available. She stated there were two
issues: funding and location with location being the primary issue.
Chair Shoemaker inquired. if she had asked Albertsons or Winn Dixie to use their
parking lot space.
Ms. Meli responded in the negative.
Chair Shoemaker suggested a movie at the carnival.

Ms. Meli said they could look into havi~lg a movie, but space was an issue. She
said Mr. Capizzi has put a lot of time into planning the carnival. She advised they
would have movies in the park at Cand}land Park this winter during the months
of December, January, and February. Bribe Ruth will have concessions again
during the movies.
Chair Shoemaker inquired if the Board •would need to meet in October.
Ms. Meli said it would be good to hold a meeting in October. She will have more
information on Reiter Park and additional information on the plans for Halloween.
They will also begin to plan Celebrate the Seasons.
Chair Shoemaker said Member Richard;~on would not request reappointment. She
suggested if anyone knows of any interested people to have them apply.
Ms. Meli reported National Night Out v~~as a huge success.
Member Uliano said she would keep an eye out for a space for the Haunted
House.
Ms. Meli reiterated the biggest problem was safety and having a sprinkler system.
5. New Business. None.
