1. Call to Order. Chair Shoemaker called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
~ 2. Approval of Minutes October 2007 Regular Meeting.
Chair Shoemaker moved to approve the minutes as presented. Seconded
by Vice Chair Driver and carried by a unanimous voice vote with Member
Manor absent.
3. Public Participation. None.
4. Old Business.
A. Recreation Manager's Report.
Ms. Meli reported the Haunted House and Fall Festival went well. She said they
did not seem to have as many go through the Haunted House this year. They made
approximately $10,000 between the Haunted House and the games.
Chair Shoemaker said they did a miniati.~re version of Booville in the reception
area of'the Police Department.
Ms. Mel said they put Booville together on Wednesday. People seemed to be
disappointed there was not going. to be ~i Booville. She stated they were looking at
setting up a Booville Village next year by using three to four inflatable Haunted
Houses and placing a fence around them. Due to the Building and Fire Standards,
they will not be able to have the Booville they have had in the past. She advised
there would be a staff meeting in January to discuss what they can and cannot do.
She reported they had food vendors this year and that went very well. She stated it
was more cost effective. She said they will offer for the vendors to come back for
Celebrate the Seasons, but since it is such.a short period of time, they will not
charge them for this event. She advised they have had some in-kind and
monetary donations for Celebrate the SE;asons.
Ms. Meli reported they held a Harvest 11~Ioon Ball last month in partnership with
Chambrel and this was a huge success. ,3he said they would try to hold this type
of event quarterly. She stated the Senior Matinee has been moved to the
afternoons on the third Wednesday of tree month and this event has grown since
changing the time. This month they will be showing Walk the Line. The
Longwood Arts and Craft Festival will be held on November 1 T" and 18'h and
they will be holding Blue Grass that weekend. She advised the City was holding a
yard sale that same weekend from 7:00 .a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Police
Department.
Ms. Meli advised they have a full calendar for the. month of December. Celebrate
the Seasons vvill be held on December 1~` from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. She said they
have crafts lined up for this event and they are working on raffle items. Santa,
Mrs. Claus, and the Elf will be at the event. Friday, December T", there will be a
movie at Candyland Park from 7:00 to S~:00 p.m. The concession stand will be
open. She said the Lyman High School Booster Club will be holding a SK on
December 8~'. Ms. Meli reported Santa 'Visits Longwood east. of the railroad
tracks on December 8~' and west of the railroad tracks on December 9~'. This will
be advertised in the December 1~` water bill. She advised they will not be holding
Blue Grass in December. The movie for December's Senior Matinee will be
Home Alone.. She stated that food will bye delivered to the Longwood Families in
Need the week of December 17a`.
Chair Shoemaker inquired if they were working on a Calendar of Events.
Ms. Meli advised current activities were on the home page of the City's website
and other events and activities were under the Recreation section, She stated there
was a calendar on the website that had Meetings; Community Building schedule,
and Recreation Events posted. She explained that you could view all items or
choose one area to view.
Ms. Meli and Chair Shoemaker welcomed Boy Scout Troop 834 to the meeting.
Ms. Meli gave an update on City Parks. She advised Smallworld Park was
complete and was being very well used. They started today on Highland Hills
Park and Shadow Hill Park was schedul~:d to be worked on next. She said the
shade structure for Magnolia Park was unable to be used there so it was moved to
Candyland Park. She advised apre-bid vvith site visit was held for Reiter Park and

the bid packets had gone out. They are hoping to have a groundbreaking in
~ February.
Member Putz said he took his granddaughter to Booville and they appreciated
having this for the younger children.
Ms. Meli said Chief Jackson and his stajf~pitched in and did Booville this year;
and people were very appreciative.
Member Uliano said she went through the Haunted House and it was just as scary
this year.
Ms. Meli said. the next Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting was
scheduled for December 4~'. She stated January's meeting date was a holiday.
She suggested the Board may desire to gold their next meeting in February.
Chair Shoemaker moved to cancel the December meeting and have no
meeting in January due to the holiday. Seconded by Member Uliano and
carried by a unanimous voice vote with Member Manor absent.
5. New Business. None.
6. Adjournment. Chair Shoemaker adjourned the meeting at 7:37 p.m.
