AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LOIJGWOOD, 6
FLORIDA, PROVIDING FOR THE REGI'JLATION
VACCINATION, LICENSING, CONTROL AND
DISPOSITION OF DOGS WITHIN THE CITY
LIMITS OF THE'~CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA,
AND PROVIDING PENALTY FOR VIOL,~TION OF _

BE IT ENACTED BY,~HE PEOPLE OF .THE CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA: .
Sectional. Every owner or keeper of dogs in. the City '
.

of Longwood shall have each dc~:~, over two (2) months old. vac- .
~
cinated against rabies by a licenaed veterinarian. once each year'
on. or before the lst day of June of each year. The veterinarian,,
making such vaccination shall.fur.n:ish to~the dog owner a certi-
ficate showing the date of such vaccin:ation..
Section. 2. All own.exs or keepers of dogs within the
City of Longwood are required to obtain from the City Clerk

within. thirty (30) days of the passage of this Ordin.an.ce an;d
thereaftex on. or before the 1st day of June of each year a
license tag for- each dog owned or in. thar possession. The Clerk

shall issue such license tag only upon: the showing of the veter--~
in.arian.? s certificate an,d. the payment of the license fee pro-
vided herein.
Section. 3. A license fee for each d.og shall be paid

(a) $1.00 for ~on,e mal'e~dog an,d $3.00 fox
each additional male dog.
(b) $3.'00 for each un;spayed bitch.

Section. 4. There shall be attached to the collar of

or vicious dog that is found at large in th.e City shall be im-
pounded anal if an.y such dog cannot be captured for the purpose
of impoun.din.g it. shall. be killed by a police officer of the City,.
Section. 7. If the owner of any dog impounded is known.
anal it is practicable to do so, the poun.dke~eper, upon. the im-
pou.ndin.g of such dog, shall notify the owner of such impoun.dmen.t.
Section. 8. The owner or persor,~ claiming possession. of
~ any impounded dog may secure said dog's release upon. payment to
the City Tax Collector of the sum of $2.00 plus the sum of $1.50
for. each day such dog is impounded. If an.y such dog does n.ot haw"`~'~_

a current valid license tag attached to his; collar he shall not be
released. until a current valid license tag is obtained.
Section. 9. If an.y dog impounded. under the provisions
of preceding sections shall n.ot be redeemed by the owner or person.
claiming possession. within. three (3) days after the impounding
thereof, such dog shall be disposed of by police officer or the
poun.dkeeper.
Section. lO. All dogs impounded shall be properly fed
anal cared for until redeemed or disposed o=.
Section. 11. All bitches in. heat must be confined. anal
it shall be unlawful for a bitch while in heat to run. at large in.
the City. An.y such bitch shall beseized ;~n.d impoun.ded. Upon. the
impoun.dmen.t of such bitch the poun.dkeeper shall notify the owner
or keeper thereof, if he be known, anal if :such bitch tjas not been
redeemed after being impounded for three (3) days she shall be
disposed of .
Section. 12. No person. shall k.=ep a dog that is des-

owner or keeper thereof shall be notified and upon. the failure of
the owner or keeper to restrain. such d:og after being notified the
dog shall be impounded. .
Section. 13. The Mayor may order, . whenever in. his judc~-
men.t the public safety requires anal after a reasonable notice, that .
all dogs be securely muzzled: when. off the private property of thei.~r
owners or keepers anal after such n.otificatio;n. ariy dog found at large
without a muzzle may be killed by an:y police officer.
Section. 14. The City shall desi~gn.ate a person. to act
as poundkeeper anal shall also designate a city pound which may be
an.y veterinarian clinic or other facility within. or without the
city limits of the City of Longwood.
Section. 15. The keeping of more than three (3) dogs
on an.y premises shall. be determin:e,d to be the operation. of a .
ken.n.el anal the operation. of a kennel within. the corporate limits
is hereby declared. unlawful. .
Section. 16. It shall be unlawful for. an.y person. to
interfere or hinder an.y police officer in the performance of an.y
required. duty under this Ordinance..
Section. 17. The violation of any of the provisions

of this Ordin.an.ce is hereby declared to be an unlawful act anal
shall be punishable by a fine n.ot to exceed $300. or imprisonment
not ex.ceedin.g sixty (60) days, or by both such fine anal imprison.-
men.t.
Section. 18. This Ordin.an:ce specifically repeals ~
Ordin.an.ce No. 163 of the City of Longwood, Florida, anal all other
ordin:an.ces or parts of.rod.in.an.ces in. conflict herewith are hereby
