A.N ORDINANCE OF TF[E CITY OF LONGWOOD,
FLORIDA, PROPOSING A..MENDMENTS TO THE
CHARTER OF THE CITY O:F LONGWOOD, FLORIDA,
PURSUANT TO ARTICLE IV, SECTION 4.04; ARTICLE
VIII, SECTION 8.04 (b); AND ARTICLE IX, SECTION 9.04
(a~), PROVIDTNG THAT SA.I]D ]?ROPOSED AMENDMENTS
BE SUBMITTED ON THE BAI:LOT TO THE VOTERS AT
THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION ON TUESDAY,
NOVEMBER 4, 2008, PROVIDiING FOR SEVERABILITY,
CONFLICTS AND EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the I~ity of Longwood ,Florida, appointed
a Charter Advisory Committee pursuant to Article X, Section 10.0] (c) of the City
Charter for the purpose of reviewing the Charter o:Pthe City and submitting
recommendations to the City Commission for p:rol~osed amendments or revisions of the
Charter; and
WHEREAS, the City Corm7ussion 'of the City of Longwood, Florida, has met
and considered the recommendations of the 'Charter Advisory Committee; and
WIiEREAS, the City Coirunission of the ~~ity of Longwood, Florida, proposed
the following amendments to the Charter of the; City of Longwood be submitted to the
voters of the City of Longwood at the next Gener,il Election on Tuesday, November 4,
2008.

as follows:
CHARTER A112ENDMENT #1
Article IV, Section 4.04, Appointment oi.'city administrator; qualifications;.
compensation, is amended to read as follows:
The City Commission by a ma~jo;ri vote shall appoint a City
Administrator for an indefinite term and fix his or leer compensation. The Administrator
shall be appointed on the basis of executive and administrative qualifications which
qualifications will be set forth more fully in an ordinance.

(b) In the event of a tie vote at a City Election, the. City of
Longwood will follow Florida Statutes .100.181.

CHARTER AMENDMENT #3
Article IX, Section 9.04 (a), Petitions, is amended to read as follows:
(a) Number of Signatures. Initiative and referendum petitions must be
signed by qualified voters of the City equal in number to at least fr€teen twenty percent
{-1-5°/n) 20% of the total number of qualified voters registereel to vote.

SECTION 2. The proposed amendments to the Charter of the City of Longwood
as set forth above shall be individually placed on the City ballot and submitted to the
voters at the next General Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2008.. The voters shall have
an opportunity to vote on the proposed amendments to the Charter, which proposed
amendments shall be placed on the ballot individually, and the Charter of the City of
Longwood, Florida shall be amended pursuant to the proposed amendments receiving a
majority of votes cast and shall become effective upon passage of the specific
amendments.
SECTION 3. The provisions of the Ordinance are declared to be separable and if
any section, sentence, clause, or phrase of this Ordinance shall for any reason be held to
be invalid or unconstitutional, such decision shall not affect.the validity of the remaining
sections, sentences, clauses, or phrases of this Ordinance but they shall remain in effect, it
being the legislative intent that this Ordinance shall .stand notwithstanding the invalidity
of any part.

.SECTION 4. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith be and
the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall becorrie effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
