A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA
SUPPORTING THE INITIATION OF A LYMAN HIGH SCHOOL
RECYCLING PROGRAM (WASTE PAPER AND PLASTIC AND
ALUMINUM DRINK CONTAINERS) AS PROPOSED BY THE
SEMINOLE COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT COUNCILS
AND DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR AND
APPROPRIATE CITY STAFF TO WORK WITH THE
ASSOCIATION AND LYMAN HIGH SCHOOL TO ESTABLISH A
RECYCLING PROGRAM AND TO IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAM
AT LYMAN HIGH SCHOOL, PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS AND
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Seminole County Association of Student Councils has identified the
development and implementation of a recycling program for waste paper and plastic and
aluminum drink containers at each of the District's High Schools as a priority project of the
Association; and
WHEREAS, the School Board of Seminole County, Florida endorses and strongly
supports the recycling initiative of the Association; and
WHEREAS, the School Board acknowledges that recycling programs are in place at
various District high schools and have been supported by District staff working in cooperation
~` with student government organizations at those schools:
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:
1. That by the adoption of this resolution, the City of Longwood causes its
endorsement and strong support for the development and implementation of a
recycling program for waste paper and plastic and aluminum drink containers at
Lyman High School; and
2. That the City administrator is hereby directed to have appropriate City staff work
with representatives of the Association and a designated administrator at Lyman
High School to develop and implement a recycling program for plastic and
aluminum drink containers;
3. That the City Administrator and the Association shall report on the progress of the
development and implementation of the Lyman High School recycling program
from time to time as they deem appropriate;
4. That all resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed; and
5. That this resolution shall be effective upon passage and adoption by the
City Commission of the City of Longwood, Florida.
6. That a copy shall be forwarded to the presiding officer of the Seminole County
Association of Student Councils for its records, and that a copy shall be forwarded
to the principal of Lyman High School and such district administrators as deemed
appropriate by the City Administrator.
