CALL TO ORDER
Chairman McCoy called the meeting to order at ]:OS p.m. He [hen proceeded to call for an
approval of the minntes for February, duly, and September 2000.
Member Huttner made a motion to approve the minutes for February 2000. Member
Daugherty aeronded. Motion carried by So-2 with Members Anderson and Taylor absent.
Chairman McCoy called for an approval of the Jvly 2000 minutes, Member Huttner made
o appro e, Member Daugherty seconded. Motion carried by 5-0-2 with Members
Anderson and Taylor absent.

DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Jones proceedetl m tell where he lives and how he came about taking this position. He
orked for the city vfCasseiberry as head of ParW and Recreation for8yea and when he
decided to retire he wen( into busivess for himsnlf which only amounted to working on [he
weekends. So, wM1en he heard about this position he decided to apply and hoped to bring
his experience here. He's looking forward to working for Longwootl.
Chairman McCoy welromed Mr. Jones and all seconded that motion. He then turned the
m ring over to Tracy Crowe
6. OLD BUSINESS
Ms. Crowe presentW a list that Ms. Renfro helped create nbout the Parks and what needs
io be updated. She then handed out Nesurvey to the members again so they could refer
backtoit as she gavea summary of the hems she had attomplished. This isa[vllow up to
the survey that went oat with the Utility Bill to which there was an iv<redible response
Returns were received from 800 households which represented 2043 individuals from the
City. Thai was.an outstanding response. Ms Growe then referred to a spread sheet which
rned the results.
She noted that 41 % were requesting pools, so they are really working with Lyman High
S<hovl to team up with them since they need a new pool. We are checking to see how
Sanford did it with Seminole Higb School and how Lake Brantley did it with M[amvnte.
Member Breckon commented that M1cr sun is taking diving lessoms and when he went to
Longwood Aquatic Center on Saturday there was a meet Mere and they coultln't get near
the pool since it was sv crowded. They bad to go to Sanford and they saiA it was a great
facility. So there is a need fora pool.
Mr. Janes said when he worked [or Cassclberry he me[ with the Assietam County Manager
[o find out how he could apply for a block gran[ for a swimming pool for Casselberry and
he was told that SavfoN just got lucky and received a two million dollar grant However.
he conid apply, but chances were very slim. SHIy it ix another passiblliry to look into.
Ms.Cm said they will continuem work onthat while looking at ali the alternatives. MS.
Crowe then advised that the largest 5 responses for additional recreation facilities were:

Other [able categor s of interest were; a park far dogs, improved tennis facilities, a
Community Civic Center, and a skating facility. One of the questions on the survey was
"Do you use the facilities a1 night?"and ]8% snid "na", but alao asked was, "would you
use them it'they were lit as night?" and 60 % said yes they would.
Ms. Crowe continued saying [key had talked to Lyman Higb School about shared farilities:
e: the pool, the multi-purpose building, and their desire to put N 6 basketball goals, and a
muilFpurpoae field. They woalU also need a lighting systmn ivstallW.

programs 26%, and special needs group t]%.
The Adult Program was separate from the Adult League, n to be <onfusW with Sport
Recrcatiov Group,that's the option we gave them on the survey. They are looking (or

Ms. Gowe said the survey alro questioned if they were going outside she city for activities
and if so, for what, 243 said for playgrounds, 168 said they used trails for walking, ]5] said
is, 152 said picnic areas miU open space, t04 said baseball, 101 said basketball courts ,
63 said soccer, 54 said su(tbaly 53 said pools, 41 aaid using community centers elsewhere, 39
said racket ball, and 29 saitl football.
Ms. Crowe said they have been concentrating on upgrading existing equipment and
facilitiea anU looking at the existing parks and laying out some site plans. When they come
back next they will be presenting site plans and a couple of alternatives for each one before
they Roal¢e the report.

park, or would they come up with 8 plans at ovice for a118 parksT
Ms. Crowe said they might not be recommrnding that great a change. Itjust might be an
upgrade of Piaygrouvd equipment for same ofthe sma0er community parks. For Railer
and Candyland they will propose an alternative fur each, And for the trails they will
provide an overall map w show how the [rails link togethu.
Ms. Crowe reviewed their proposed schedule:

Ms. Crowe noted it will probably be next yam before they tan get staved.
Chairman McCoy, referencing the equipment report, indicated concern and voiced a
question about equipment timt was unsafe, was it being taken out m soon as possiblq as it
poses a liability to the City.
M11r. Jones agreed with Mr. McCoy as Ae has had experience wirA some liability issues in
the pose tle believed since these unsafe issues Aave. been identified same. kind of action
should be taken as soon as possible.
Member Breckon eatused herself at Nis point as she had another appointment.
Chair McCoy proceeded to inform all that December Y, 2000 was the date for the
Chris ant, and that Altamonte was having their holiday event o anther date so we
did notnhave w worry that people would leave to see the lighting o(Cranes Roost for their
Christmas Gala ns l:appeoed last year.
Ms. Renfro Bald she believed Member 6reckon had gotten the choir from Lyman High
School, the Show Time Danttrs,and Ne Girl Scoots. She said everything will be much the
