PR05-07-02 PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD Commission Chambers 175 West Warren Avenue Longwood, Florida Minutes May I, 2002 Present: Gerald O'Keefe, Chair Mike HoIG Vlce Chair Tetl Dougherty, Member Ken Knickerbocker, Member Rex Antlerson, Member Chuck Gilmore, Member Klm Pflug, Member Leslie Walsh, Recreational Programs Coordinamr Debby Reimers, Recording Secretary 1. CALL TO ORDER. Chair O'Keefe celled the meeting to order et 7:04 pm 2. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION. None. 3. OLD BUSINESS. A. DIRECTOR'S REPORT. Ms. Walsh gave a short progress report on the work being done at Santlalwootl Park. She gave a hantlout showing the design for the park to the boartl members. She is working on like designs for the other parks in the City. Ms. Walsh commentetl that at the entl of the month the summer camp would start. They were able to hire m e staff and they raised the number of camp paNCipants from 50 to 70. There is sell a wailing list. She went over other upwming events as well. B. APPROVE THE MARCH AND APRIL MINUTES. MSC [Anderson/DOUghedy] [o approve [he m notes of the March 5, 2002 minutes. The motion carried 7-0.0. MSC [AndersonlDOUgherty] to accept [he minutes of the April 2, 2002 meeting. The motion carried 7-OA. Member Dougherty mentionetl he was happy with the new lighting at Cantlyland Park. He believes it has matle a difference antl tleterretl crime. 4. NEW BUSINESS. Ms. Walsh welcomed Member PFlug to the Board antl stated that she was glad to have heron the board. Member Knickerbocker said that he woultl have [o submit his letter of resignation at the next board meeting because he has purchased a home out of the City limits. He has enjoyed the honor of serving on the boartl. Member Antlerson ro ented on the m wing a antl [he lake by hls home. After they mow there is tlebris left behind because they mow over the garbage Insteatl of picking it up. He attributes the trash to the kids at the school bus stop. He theorized that the kids might attempt to throw their garbage tlown the gutters that then washes up on shore. He was also wncemed about the safety of the tlucks arountl our pontls. 5.
