t. CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Host called the meeting to ortler at ]:05 p.m.
2. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Mr. Holt invited Ms. Tolos to join the Board at the table to tell the Board
what she thought residents of Longwood woultl like to see at the Christmas
Evens. Ms. Tolos thought it should be called "Celebrate the Season antl
Tree Lighting Event. The Board might also expand the time to include the
Snow House that was at Celebrate the Season at Candylantl Park last year.
She said the part she took last year was getting d5% of the items which
ere donated to the event and helping where she was nestled. She would
also like to see the Arts 8 Crafts table increased, and Santa stay longer by
taking breaks every so often, also more advertising started sooner. Fresh
trees were put around the snow house last year then donated to needy
families after the event with decorations so they couitl decorate the frees
themselves. Everything left over also went to the families. She saitl she
sold be more than willing to work with the Boartl this year again to help in
any way she might be needed. She thanked the Board (or leriing her speak
to them.

7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Approve August T, 2002 Minutes.
MSC (Antlerson/Rebello ~ to approve the August T, 2002 Minutes. Motion
passed 6-0-2 with Members O'Keefe and PFlug absent.
B. Coordinators Report
Ms. Walsh confinnetl the date of Saturday September 21, 2002 for the Bike
Rodeo. Time is 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We will have Mike on the Bike from
the Seminole County Sheriff's Department, he's a little character that rides
a bike and answers all the children's questions. The obstacle course will be
set up, there will be all kinds of inforrnationai books set up in tlifferent
as to check helmets antl safety items on all bikes. Volunteers will be at
different tables to do a safety check on all bikes. They will be tesletl to see
how safely they ride and H they know the safety rules of riding. Prizes given
throughout the day will be bikes, regec[ors, antl pads. There will be juice,
water, and cookies and Ms. Walsh will ask [he Girl Scouts to help pass out
refreshments. The Police Department woultl be doing finger printing. A
fomf will be given out to the parents to HII out the particulars of [he bike
antl keep on Ole at home in case of theft, so they can prove the bike
belongs to them in case of recovery. All volunteers should be there at
B:OOa.m, to start at 9:OOa.m.
Time for the Christmas Event was brought up again antl it was decitletl it
oultl start at 2:00 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. since Celebrate the Season was now
added to the program. This discussion was then tabled until nezt month so
[hey could start the discussion for plans for Halloween.
4. NEW BUSINESS
A. HALLOWEEN EVENT
Ms. Walsh said Thurstlay, October 31, 2002 starts The Fall Festival, from
5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and at the same time the Board is volunteering to
work " Booville", which is a Haunted House for the little ones 6 years old
and under. It's free for all and it will also continue on November 1" and 2"a

think of an eye catching theme upon entering.
Ms. Walsh then went on to speak of the grant monies being made available
from the Flodtla Recreation Development Assistance Program jFRDAPj.
the FRDAP grant provitles matching funds of up to $200,000 to
organizations who apply and eam the required points necessary to be
eligible to receive the grant monies. A certain number of points are
warded to an organization that discusses the Brant with its Atlvlsory
Committee. Ms. Walsh explained that the grant is being sought in order to
refurbish Reiter Park. The total cost of the project will be over $500,00.
The awarding of the gran[ will not take place until November. If the grant is
ived, the City will have two [o three yeare to have the project
ompletetl. Ms. Walsh then responded to questions from the Board relative
to the Reiter Park project.
Ms. Walsh saitl rules and regulations for [he Parks Boartl were never
adopted. A copy was distributed to all in order [o review for the next
eeting when it can be discussed by Me Board and sent to the
Commission for approval.
Ms. Walsh said the election of Officers of the Board will be scheduled for
the October meeting.
