i. Call to Order. Chair Rebello calletl the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
2. Election of a Vlce-Chair.
Chair Rebello opened the floor for nominations of Vice Chair.
Chair Rebello nominatetl Abigail Shoemaker. There being no further
nominations, Chair Rebello Gosetl the nominations.
Nomination canied by a unanimous voice vote.
3. Approval of Minutes -March 2, 2004 Regular Meeting.
Vice Chair Shoemaker movetl to approve the minutes of the
Regular Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting of March 2,
2004 as submittetl. Seconded by Member Richardson and carried
by a unanimous voice vote.
4. Public Participation.
Commissioner Brian Sackett Ihanketl Ne Boartl antl staff for the Easter
Egg Hunt. He stated it was a flawless event and a good way to celebrate
with families. He declaretl the city nestled to pursue funtls for bike trails.
He inquired whether the Parks and Recreation Boartl could be involved in
pursuing these funds. He stated he would like to see a working
relationship between the CiTy Commission and the Parks and Recreation

Advisory Board. He requested the Board also consider in what areas the
trails should be.
Ms. Melt advised that trails ware an item itlent~ed in the Parks Master
Plan. She stated it would ba an advantage if fhe trail could hook into the
wunty's trail system.
Commissioner Sackett agreed, and stated that Mayor Anderson had
alluded tc, there are funds available and Longwood needs to Gaim their
share.
Ms. Melt agreed that she would like to pursue funds from Ne county.
Chair Rebello asked if the Master Plan was showing the trails connecting
to all parks.
Ms. Melt responded in the at(rmative.
Discussion was held regarding the Parks Master Plan.
Ms. Melt declared fhe Board has been very involved with events and
anything under trails would also involve Nis board.
5. Old Business.
A. Park 8 Recreation Manag¢fs Report.
Ms. Melt reported that Amy Stevenson has been hired as a
Community Services Coordinator. She is a graduate student at
UCF in Public Administration. Ms. Stevenson will primarily be
working in Recreation.
Ms. Melt reported the Easter Egg Hunt was held on Saturday, April
3'". She stated there were three golden eggs in each of the age
groups. The Community Officer was present and there was a fire
truck there. She deGare0 that they needed to tlo a better jab with
publicity. She said she would be suggesting a quarterly newsletter
in fhe water bills. She statatl they were hoping to past events at the
parks throughout the city.
Ms. Melt reported there were approximately 75 in attendance at the
last Blue Gress. She stated the Historical Society sold coffee and
desserts. They have requested to sell products each month at Blue
Grass.
Ms. Melt reported that the rnetl softball is half way through the
n. She slated the Longwood Longshots were improving and
having fun. She statatl there were 25 in attendance at Seniordse
today. She has ordered a lapel microphone for instructor to weer.

Vice Chair Shoemaker slatetl the Seniorcise insWIXOr was very
positive and uplming.
Diswssion was held regarding the Seniordse Program.
Ms. Mali reportatl Blue Grass would be heltl at Lyman High School
for the months of April antl June. She stated they would have signs
postetl with directions. She advised they woultl also have someone
outsitle the Community Builtling to iMOnn anyone who may not be
e of the change. The June event will be a Blue Grass
Appredation Day antl will be gearetl toward a family event. She
reportatl that following this event, Blue Grass woultl remain at the
Community Building.
Ms Meli advisetl the Senior Matinee starts this month. It will be
heltl the thirtl Wednestlay of the month. The Matinee's will be a
brown bag lunch, with the dry providing beverages and popcorn.
Ms- Meli reported Ney will begin registering city resitlents for
Summer Camp on April 12 Non residents will have the
opportunity to register the following Monday. Summer Camp will be
heltl at Lyman High School and they will have use of the pool every
afternoon they are not on a feltl tdp. $he stated there woultl be two
feltl trips planned each week antl on Fridays Ney will have a pizza
party or a cook-out She atlvisetl they will be hiring a director,
counselors antl Junior counselors for the Summer Camp program.
Discussion was held regartling student volunteers.
Ms. Mali reportatl the following updates for parks:
• Magnolia Park has been dearetl and fll tlirt brought In.
Playgrountl equipment is in antl they are schetluling
installation.
• Reiter Park plans are being drawn up. Tha two ball felds at
Reiter Park will be removetl.
• Smallworld Park plans have been tlrawn up. There will be
playgrountl equipment, basketball halt-court, and a
unity room attached to the fre station. The tennis
courts will be removetl.
• Candylantl Park has hatl the donation of irrigation by the
Babe Ruth. They antidpate the feltls will be reatly by fall.
Ms. Mali reported National Night Oul is schetluletl for August 3i°.

Member Mang inquired how to adtlress issues brougtri up of last evenings
Commission mealing. She stated ana item was in regards fc no smoking
signs at city parks.

statetl the City Commission could also ask the Parka and Reueaflon

Chair Rebello asked If the new members wore aware the City Commission
has an ortlinance that passetl the first reading requiring fnancial
dlsofosure for the Darks and Reueaflon Advisory Boartl members.
