Sewnded by Member Richardson and cartied by a unanimous voice vote 3. Public Participation. None. 4. Old Business. A. Recreational Manager's Report. Ms. Mali introduced Olicer Stewartson who was in attendance to speak on National Night Out. She reported there was a DJ scheduled for Ger Or+ Board - R'heels ojFurt Famfly Nlghr. She atated this was a flee event bur they would be selling food. She said skateboards and roller blades were allowed, but no bikes. She advised children under 18 years ofage must hav a pare sign a and all Datticipan us[ wear a helmet. She stated thwenwould be hreo(l)Angelboy skateboards given away as well other items. She said this was a family ev and they had many scheduled to include an inflatable, ant obstacle course. a giant triker ands aterpillar awl. She atated the skate peo0le Rom Casselberry would also be parzicipating. She advised the Skatewave Demo Tout would be Rom ]:00-9.00 p.m. end the whole event was between 6.00.10:00 p.a~ She stated they needed eppmximately six (5)roten (10) volunteers. She acid she would like one person to be in chargeofthe volunteers. She requested the members wntact her if they are available. Olticer Stew n advised they now hav a Germ n shepherd K9 officer and would be contluaing a demonstration as well as a demonstation with the bloodhound. He stated they would also he conducting digital fngerprinting ofthe children. He said he would be contacting HOme Depot for crafts- Ms. Mali reported National Night Out would be held on August 2, 2005. She stated they would be selling hot Aogs and drinks es they have in the past. Officer Stewanson staled National Night Out had been around for approximately 22 years, and was started by a group of citizens. He said it goes along with the theory of basic crime prevention and awareness. He aced the City of Longwood holds one large city event that offers people the opportunity to get to know the Police Department. Member Driver suggested moving National Night Out each year, holding tt indifferent parks to involve the whole community. Officer Stewartson staled they may want to change the venue each year and move it around Por equal access. He stated they appreciate all that the board members do to help with special events. Ms- Meli inquired i[they wanted to wminue with the raffle tickets for prizes. Member Driver stated the ratfiawas too long and he suggested holding it et cenatn rimes or at the end oPthe event. It was the consensus oPthe bond to keep the rattle, but limit the time and hold it toward the end ofihe event. Discussion was held regarding handing out bags as people Ms. Mali reported that Bluegrass was very busy last month. She stated there were a lot of musicians and listeners attending. She reported that Longwood Lifestyles did an article on Rluegrass Pickins'. Ms. Mali reported this week was the frst week of summer camp. She rated they wnduaed a three (3) day orientation for the counulors. The counselors came up with a theme ofS+gx~r Heroes for summer camp. Ms. Mali repotted Sen or Mati es to have approx ately twelve (I2) participants each month. She sa dtth i month's fature is Charade. She reported the HARP evening driving class was full and they would be offering more clasus. She staled Seniorcise was still going strong and to grow. She reported Family Movie night starts this week on Tbufsday evening She stated naff would be selling refreshmenta She distributed a flier with the uheduled f tares. She stated they had submitted a CDRG grant through the county for Smallworld Park. She reviewed the planned features for Smallworld Park. 5. New Business. Discussion was held regarding the luly 5, 2005 meeting Member Ulian ved to eel the July 5, 2005 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting. Sewnded by Member Richardson and <amed by Ms. Mali advised she would be in touch with the members regarding National Night Out. Ms Mali reported two (2) students ware volunteering with summer amp. She stated the Explorers would be helping with National Night Out. She requested volunteers meet at Reiter Park at 5:00 p.m. for the skate demo. Chair Shoemaker inquired if Ms. Mali would need help building and decorating with the 61I kuivel. She stated she would be available ro help alter the 24'" oP September. Ms. Mali stated the biggest concern about the fat l festival was rho arrival. She stated they did not have a ouKb volunteers for the carnival. She stated it would be shorter this year and held on a Monday night. She slated Pat Smith has offeretl to build m re games for the ce val. She said the c val did not produce a great deal of money for Longwood Families in Need. She stated They would need more prizes and betttt prizes for the gamer Discussion was held. Chair Shoemaker stated she would like to thank the Clerk's OAce for the Board Appreciation Dinner. 6. Adjournment.
