1. CALL TO ORDER.
Mr. Wons called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
2. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION.
A. GUEST SPEAKER VANESSA SWARTZBAUGH, LOCAL GIRL SCOUT TROOP
LEADER, TO DISCUSS CHRISTMAS LIGHTING CEREMONY.
Ms. Lomax introduced Ms. Swartzbaugh and told a little about her
the things she has done for the City in the past. That is why Ms.
Lomax requested that she be at the meeting.
Ms. Swartzbaugh spoke about her troop decorating ornaments. Last
year they got together and made crafts. They sold them at
Longwood's annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony Thrift Shop. The
money earned from the sale is turned over to make food baskets for
the homeless. Last year the girls sang, and held a cake walk. They
are thinking of a craft for this year and they want to keep it
simple and cost efficient.
They talked about doing ornaments for animals like squirrels etc.
They want to collect 200 pine cones for this years craft. Ms.
Lomax is trying to find a chorus teacher for this years event. She
is trying to get a singing group called the Calliopes.
The girl scouts will do the baking for the bake sale. There are 20
troops with an average of 10 girls for each troop.
Mr. Wons said he wanted to find out exactly what the girl scouts
are willing to take on for the lighting ceremony. Ms. Swartzbaugh
responded that there will be one bake sale for animals and one for
people.
P&RAB-(2)-10/3/95
They want to come up with something different for the girls to do
this year as far as a craft goes. Ms. Swartzbaugh said that she is
going to go through what she has and see what items for crafts they
have and what she can get a good deal on. Last years project was
very cost efficient but time consuming. Mr. Wons said he would see
what materials he had that would otherwise go to waste.
Ms. Swartzbaugh did not want the girls to have to do the same craft
in scouts as they are doing in school. She wanted to know if the
City had a budget for the project. Sandy confirmed that there was
a budget for it.
Ms. Huttner said she would supply the girl scouts with gatoraide
for the ceremony.

C. CRITIQUE DOG SHOW.
Ms Lomax wanted to make sure that next years show made it in to the
paper and she suggested that they make a back drop for the pictures
to be taken. She commented that for the next years show the
participants move around in a circle with their pets and the judges
be positioned inside the circle. This way everyone can see the
show. She also suggested that next years a limit be placed on how
many participants are allowed to enter the show. There were 72
people in the building this year, the capacity for the building is
75. There would be a pre-registration for the dog show for the
people sent flyers for the show.
Ms. Latimer was concerned about a lack of participation this might
cause if people think the show is limited.
P&RAB-(3)-10/3/95
The board decided to take participants as they come.
Ms. Sheppard suggested that we have two people at the door next
year to handle the amount of participants quickly and efficiently.
Mr. Wons said that Supreme Leather Restorers will make custom
fitted collars for the next years show. We will furnish the
materials and they will make them.
Ms. Lomax called Petsmart and they said that if we call next year
eight weeks in advance they will get support for the show.
Mr. Wons wanted to know if anyone had received any feed back from
the public. Ms. Lomax said that she received positive feedback
from the public. Mr. Wons said that most people thought that the
dog show was going to be formal and then learned that it was fun.
5. NEW BUSINESS.
A. DISCUSS CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY.
Mr. Smock would like a copy of everything that was done last year,
special events, agenda, minutes, so that he has the information.
Ms. Latimer wants to know exactly what the City does every year
also.
