PR 07-03-91 MinPARKS/RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD JULY 3, 1991 PRESENT: MARY VOLKENING-CHAIRMAN NANCY HARRI5 LISA KRIST HILL GOEHEL-DIRECTOR OF P/R GUESTS: JOAN THOMPSON-MISSING CHILDREN CENTER DON SEMON-MISSING CHILDREN CENTER STAN WL05EK-GATOR STATE LATE GREAT GAR CLUB MIKE WARMAN-VFW POST #8207 SGT. TOMMY JACKSON STEVE PALUMBO-PRES. BABE RUTH BASEBALL CHRIS MYLETT 1. Nis. Volkening called the meeting to order at 7:06 P,M. Ms. Neisler introduced the guests and thanked them for coming. 2. Motion by Ms. Krist to approve the minutes dated June 28, 1991 as submittedlSecor~ded by Ms. Harris. 3. Nis. Neisler had distributed maps of Candyland Par N: and board members discussed with guests the placing of the booths and concessions, Members also informed the car club that entries should arrive at 9:30 R.M. Mr. Goebel will open the park at 8:00 A.M. and the VFW can set the grill up anytime after that. Board members should be present by 9:00 A.M. 4. Ms. Krist had received a donation of approximately 200 small bags of potato chips from Frito Lay and was concerned about distributing them if the VFW was selling chips. Mr. Warman offered to sell the chips at their concession for the Missing Children Center. The board agreed and thanked Mr~. Warman for his generosity. Mr. Warman also submitted to Ms. Neisler a certificate of insurance for coverage of the VFW for the day's event. Mr. Warman inquired about someone picking up the dunking booth. Ms. Neisler was under the impression that the VFW was bringing the dunking booth. Mr. Warman said no one would be available. Ms, K.rist offered to pick up the dunking booth if the ball fit her trailer hitch. Ms. Neisler phoned the VFW at this time to find out the size of trailer hitch, the VFW could not tell her the size at that time. It was decided that Ms. Neisler would tali the next day and make arrangements to have the booth picked up. 5. Ms. Krist passed out a draft of the agenda for review by the board. Ms. Neisler will fax a copy to Mr. Mylett on Wednesday. Members selected Mr. Goebel, Mr. Palumbo, and Mr. Terry to be the judges of the car show, Voting will be turned in by 1:00 P.M. and the winners announced at 1:30 P.M. Ms. Krist also showed Page Two 7/3/91 P/R Minutes signs that she had prepared for the booths and concessions. Ms. Krist decorated a box for- the raffle drawings. Tickets for the drawings will be purchased for X1.00 or seven for X5.00. Ms. Volkening will supply change for cash drawer that Ms. Krist will handle. 6. Ms. Volkening asked the guests if there was any questions that had not been addressed. She invited the guests to attend the City Commission meeting on July 15th when the Missing Children Center would be awarded the proceeds from July 4th. Guests were excused at this time. Ms. Harris volunteered to call IWS about a recycling bin being placed at Candyland for the soft drink cans. The board decided on the games and times; softball throw and pass the softball will be at 10:30, three legged race and sack race will be 11;30-12:30 and the water bucket race and water balloon toss will be at 1:00. Trophies will be given for first place and the cookies donated from Keebler will be given for second and third place winners. Ms. Heisler has on3y three volunteers for the dunking booth, she will get volunteers for the remainder of the time slots. Mr. Ken Peters, an employee of Public Works, will dress as a clown and make balloon characters for the children. Ms. ~ambri and Ms. Matthews have volunteered for clown face painting. 7. Mr. Goebel presented his Director's Report and this time, He updated the board about the Babe Ruth Baseball State Tournament, eleven teams will be playing and admission tickets can be purchased for the entire tournament or on a daily basis. The summer playground averages 100 attendees daily. Mr. Goebel furnished copies of the updated budget. He expressed that he would appreciate the board's support during his budget hearing with the commission and hoped everyone would attend on July 22nd. 8.
