1. t"ls. Volt;ening called the meetir~rg to order at 7:~5 P.C"l., due
to t"!r. Segrest"~ late arrival.
2. Mr. Goebel had not sup{~I ied tl-~e board with the rniriutes from
the previous mcntl-r's meeting, so there were r7c~ minutes to
approve.
3 . PUBLIC PART I C. I PAT I OP~i
l"1r~. Owen stated that he is a Longwood resident and is
affiliated with Seminole Pony Baseball. He was requesting
the use of fields in Longwood for practice. As a tai: payer
h1r, Owens>> fs~lt that he should be able to use the Longwood
fields, regardless of team and/or organisation, Mr. Ower-rs
further expressed that there ar-e nine team~a consisting of
about 95'l. Longwood resident=. Ms. Volt<ening stated that
there was not suppose to be practice of any king on thF~
fields. 3`1r. i~oet:;el stated that Labe Ruth has use the fields
for practice due to tour:~ament play, but no ether- teams or
organizations have used it to i-iis knowledge. Mr. Goebel
further explained that Longwood is facing the same problems
as many otl~rer cities, not having enough fields for pr-active.
Ms. Volt<ening also expressed that Babe Ruth sometimes aids
in the mair-;tenance of the property. Mr. Gwens stated that:
he has seen Labe Ruth doing work. on this field, but that
most of the time, it is the city employees maintaining the
field. Mr-. Owen, also stated he tas a coach) would be
willing to pay a fee= to use the fields. Ms. Volk.ening
stated that vae would have to cal<e this under advisement with
the city. f'lr. Goebel also stated that both R.e:iter and
Candyland were state fr.ended parks, we can not keep anyone
out; of the parks, Longwood residents or others. t`ir. Goebel.
will get with t"Er. Abels about addressing this problem r,oa~,
instead of waiting °~ntil actual basebali season. Ms.
Jar.=kson, the board secretary will get a memo to Mr. Abell
regarding the status of baseball practice fields. Nlr, Owen.
thanked the board for the opportunity to express his
concerns, and excused himself from the meeting.

previous meetings. Mr-. Goebel state he spoke with a Iady
who had worked on Sanford's prc7jec.t. S?-re told Mr. Goebel

a. Babe Ruth played in a Winter tour-r-rament in Altamonte
5pr~-ings during the weekend of i3ecember 9t;h and 10th.
The team consist of All Ct;ars from the winter league.
b. Mr. Goebel expressed his concern with the high school=_.
cooperation regarding u:aage of their fields and gyms.
It was decided that f"kr. Coebel would cor7tr-act i_ake Ma*. y

Coebel avi1l be meeting with Mr. Bud Rail of Florida
Power to wort; oat the details. Once the gate is up the

qutzstir~ned if fencing was gni.ng between the fields.
Mr. Goebel e;;plained that the little league field is
fenced completely. The two softball. fields ar-e anly
fenced so far and step. The remainder of the fencing
was opted t:o use the monies to pint extra irrigation in
the playground and picnic arras. At a later datca the
fer-~c.ng will be finished. Mr. Segrest questioned why
the Parks and Recreation Board was no advisecJ of the
changes. Mr-. Goebel stated h= would inform i~?r. Abels
that the board would like to be advised of such
changes.

or-; for Reiter Par-F: and Sandalwood Park had beer;
ordered. t~tr. uoebel state he would have to write a
letter- to tk-~e Purchasing ]]epart;mer~t which will then go

b . !~!r , Segr-est c~~ mmented nn ttie use of Raven Park since
the swings were installed. The c-:hiidren are putting
the swir-~gs t:o great use.
c . t~lr . Sege-=~st que~~t oned the supply of tires that have
been discussed several times. Mr. Ciaebel wants to get
the grass is<=ue settled first.
7 . NEW BtJS I NESS
Ms. Hockenber-ry express-ed her personal feelings regarding
the purpose of this advisory board. She <st:arted that the
board makes a decisiana only for it r-rot to be followed
through. She was insulted that during a dedication planting
of the trees in Candyland, the board members were not;
invited. She also stated that she feels the hoard should
have a five year plan a-F what the Loard would litre for the

the board. t~1r. Parker agreed ghat he felt the same, not; a
lot gets accomplish en. t'~!r-. Segrest `s fc=el ir,g were th<t the
board is actually doing mere than it has ever done before.
!"!s. Volkening=.tated that this board had done more than any
of the three previous boards, M=,. Hockenberry commented
that the crr,ly tt-:ing s!-~e could think of the board actually
ccmplc:~ting was putting swir-egs in Raven Park. Ms. Volt;ening
further commented that this board had the bact;ing of the
administrator- and the commission. ?"?s, Hoc.tcenberry reminded
the hoard of changes made by the administrator r-egarding

a speaker for the t-~ey:t meeting to discuss the Community
Protect,
~'ls, Hor_kenberry questioned the removal of the sheds in
Reiter Park. Mr~. Coebel stated he would get the weekend
warn-ions to take care of the sheds. Mr. Parker commented
that they could da something, such as remove the sheds,
instead of edging the sidewalks.
