EXPLANATIONBACKGROUND.
The applicant. Phil Daimwood of DDP_ has requested ste plan approval for the City of
Longwood Community Building.
The DRB has found the site plan in compliance with applicable City Codes at its August 1.2000
meetin6 with the following comments-

Ms. Childers asked to be put on the record as being against this building and that she would ba
oting no onanew communityb lding at thin nme. She stated that this should be delayed fora
year or two- Ms Childers Hated-1 was over [Pere last week and for threereasons. l cannot sea
building one ngM at this nme. One is in environmental reasons. the ground is flat, so ifyou have
a fire, ould just Flood everything, everything would be flooded out in the new
building there. Andtthe trees, there is bigtrees over. both in the parking space and in that venom
lot, that they are going to have cut down. Now, l am not forthat either. The second reason is at
this meeting I was trying to canvas some people to see whet their thoughts were on building a
ew building Cor $100,000 to $150,000. of which would come out of the I.ongwood's pocket,

play somewhere else. IfLOngwood won't find a Dlace for animals and people during a storm and
a fire. like f ve asked them to. then why should kids have anything either. Again. I say fix it up.

Ms. 6ullington asked if there was any outer discussion. Mr. Schreiber asked if Mr. Sargent

Schreiber stated he would like to recommend that Healthy trees be rebated if possible.
Ms-Wallington made a to Ms. Ch'Iders that she unders ood and empathized with hu
falivgs and that they might come from five or su differevt directions, however, aver the peat
year. year anA a half. she has been very proud oftheappearavceofthe City Nall complex and the
way we ere perceived by other elected oftivials in the area. She believes that [his community
building will be a fine addtion to that. It will enhance the City area and tha complex
Ms. Childers stated that shehad talked to a lot ofpeople evd that they agreewith her that a new
building at this time was not needed.
Ms. Bnllington stated that if the City Administrator felt that thebudget and [he Tong-range plan
this was possible and probable, she trusts those instincts and decisions, and she fah this was a
good thing. She is tired of Longwood LLxingup: it ~s time for Longwood to stand up.
Ms. Childers agreed with Ms. Wallington, but she thinks they stand up for the wrong things. She
also voted that Longwood needs to stand op and be wanted period, and that thuaareotherparts
of Longwood that need fixing worse then [he dawntosvit area-
Mr. Smgum stated that the bmlding of this Community Building is a Commission decision.
