Resolution 06-1155A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA REQUESTING THE SEMINOLE COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION INTERVENE ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO HAVE THE SCHEDULED 2007 ACCESS MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT ON SR 434 POSTPONED UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE PROPOSED ROAD WIDENING PROJECT TAKES PLACE. WHEREAS, SR 434 is the major commercial corridor through the City of Longwood; and WHEREAS, any road construction work performed on SR 434 will substantially affect traffic flow and the prosperity of businesses along the commercial corridor; and WHEREAS, FDOT has scheduled an access management improvement project along the Longwood SR 434 commercial corridor in 2007; and WHEREAS, FDOT is scheduled to begin a road widening project along the Longwood SR 434 commercial corridor in 2009; and WHEREAS, the road widening project can accomplish all the corridor improvements at one time thus reducing the impact to businesses; and WHEREAS, the funds that FDOT are preparing to spend in 2007 as part of the access management improvement project can be better spent on other road projects in Seminole County that need funding. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission of the City of Longwood do hereby request the Seminole County legislative delegation to intervene on behalf of the City of Longwood with the Florida Department of Transportation to have the scheduled 2007 access management improvement project postponed until such time as the scheduled road widening project along the Longwood SR 434 commercial corridor takes place.
