A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD,
FLORWA, SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING THE
BOARD OF COUNTY CONRI/SSIONERS TO LEVY AN
ADDITIONAL ONE CENT OF LOCAL GAS TAX TO
FULLY FUND THE ADA PARATRANSIT SERVICE IN
SENHNOLE COUNTY, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
Whereas, LYNX, the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority, is the transit
agency for Seminole, 0—it, and Osceola Counties and has been desig-M fe Commuwty
Tmnsp irstion Coordinator since 1992 by the State Commission for the Transportation
Disadv-,Id;
Whereas. LYNX provides door-to-door van paratrnnsit service called ACCESS LYNX
for medically '.,IMed, physically challenged customers through its traded artier W
Transplastir and that currently the County and Cities pay LYNX for providing paratrnnsit trips
to those eligible individwls who in their jurilt iaion qualify for the van pra—it s—
spttifiM by the American Dlsnbilitiea Act (ADA);
Whereas, approximately 39,000 ADA parannsit trips are proj.1M to occur wunty-wide
in Seminole County in Fiscal Year 2004/05, of which approximately 19,300 are p jeered W
occur wmun ithin icipal boundaries;
Whereas, the Cities and Seminole Coumy Government have coopt—d in the past in
allotting tM1e "9i° Cent LOW Option Gas Tax" to bs dMi-ld to the payment of opemfng
expenses for LYNX transit services,
Whereas, fe revenues from the 9- Cent Lobel Option Gas Tax bave - .,,d the
st of fold bus route services, ADA pamtraosit services and membership m the regional
warasportation authority for a number of years, thus requiring supplemental fading Rom the
Cities and the County;
