A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OFLONGWOOD, FLORIDA,
PROVIDING FOR A SUGGESTED AMENDMENT TO
FLORIDA STATUTES § 23.127OL TO ALLOW LAW
ENFORCE M ENTOFFICERSTOENFORCETRAFFICLAWS
OUTSIDE THE OFFICER'S JURISDICTION, PURSUANT
TOY MUTUALAID AGREEMENT, WHEN THE OFFICER IS
ON THAT PORTION OF A ROADWAY ADJACENT TO THE
OFFICER'S JURISDICTION AND WHEN SAID ROADWAY
BISECTS THE OFFICERS' JURISDICTION AND AN
ADJACENT GOVERNMENT'S BOUNDARY; PROVIDING
FOR EFFECTIVE DATE.

WHEREAS for several years the Ciry of ,,t, of has beenconcemed that the mutual aid
statutes de not au teat a law enforcement officer to enforce traffic laws outside that wl.ti s

occurs adjacent to the governmental boundary on that road; and
WHEREAS, the City of Longwood also recognizes the impottaaoe ofa clear delineation of
authority between adjoining local gov mments, tceluding in the area oftraffc enforcement-, and
WHEREAS local gov nthebest pus to delinea ache authority for traffic
enibrcemevt in areas where juriadictioaal boundaries bisect a.oad, through —,ring imo mutual aid
agreements, and
WHEREAS, in order to allow local governments to expand the scope of mutual aid
agreemens to address this issue, City of Longwood believes the mutual aid stance should bat
mended to provide that a law enforcement officer is authorized to act outside the officer s
jurisdiction in the very limited circumstance described above, but only if it is the desire fthe local
gov mments m the area.
