A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
GWOOD, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE SWAP
OF STATE OWNED
MUCK PARMLANOS IN THE EVERGLADES FORC
M KLANDS
AROUNDL E APGPKA AND APOPKA-BEAUCLAIRCANAL; TO SELB
LAKE APOPTA BY PROVIDING A BENEFICIAL AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT
FOR THC SPAWNING OF FISH AND TO FLUSH OUT POLLUTANTS
WHEREAS, the 1985 LOgisl.ature recognized the i po,ta of
instituting an ambitious and creative restorati.0 program for
Lake Apopka; and
BEEREAS, the City Commission of the City e£ Longwood, Florida,
supports the Like Apopka Restoration Project;
WHEREAS, the Longwood City Commission s pp is the proposed land
swap end the plans of the St. SOE— Raver Water Management District
would Create a large marsh zone wh—T beneficial aquatic plants Can
grow and provide spawning and breeding areas for sport fish, a„ well
as other benefits to the lake including acting s a "kidney for Lake
Apopka" by flushing out pollutants.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RCSOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
I. That the City of LOegwood, Fl—ida, hereby supports the
proposed land swap as recommended by the Lake Apopka Restoration
C..PIil, Orange County, all municipalities it the Lake Apopka Basin,
and the Executive Director of the Tri-County League of Cities.
