WHEREAS, the property tax rs an rnadequate source o£
revenue for Local governments facing exploding demands for public
services rn such essential areas as law enforcement, transportation
WHEREAS, rn yr ew of exemptions for puzchases of essential
r toms such as food and medicine, the sales tax rs more equitable than ~
the property tax and is paid by all those who beneFit from public
services zn Florida including tou rrs ts, who pay as much as 30 percent
of the sales tax,
WHEREAS, the sales tax rs an appropriate means for relieving
the property tax burden Of Floridians and fox providing local govern-
ments with a growing source of revenue, and
WHEREAS, the Florida League Of Cities has established a
Strike Force for Property Tax Relief for the purpose of securing pxope rty
tax relief and state ass rs tan ce to local governments through a 1C
statewide increase in the sales tax. y
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
SECTION 1. That the legislative program of the Florida
Lea gve of Cities regardi ng property tax relief and state ass rstance
to local governments he hereby is approved, which legislative program
is as follows:
(A) A 14 statewide increase zn the sales tax,
