WHEREAS, it is vn the best interests o£ the City of Longwood,
Florida, for the City Council to create the position of Dvr ector
of Public safety; and
WHEREAS, the safety, health, and welfare of the residents o£
Che City of Longwood, Florida, would best be served by the creatvon
of such a position.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
(1) There is hereby established and created the position
of Director of Public Safety, appointed by the Council of the ~1
City of Longwood, at an annual salary of $10,000.00.
(2) The Dv rector o£ Public Safety shall be responsible
to the Police Committee of Longwood and the City Council.
(3) The duties of <he Director of Public Safety shall
be as follows:
To render operational guidance and directional
control to the Police Department, and to perform other
functions as directed by the Police Committee and the
City Council.
To serve at the pleasure of, and receive direc- ~.~
.von from the City Council.
TO serve as technical advisor on all matters con-
cexned with insuring the public safety, health and wel-
fare of the residents of the City of Longwood, Florida.
To serve as a direct line administrator of the
police, c>Vil defense, and traf'f is engineering depart-
ment5
To pe norm all other duties and functions as directed
by the Police Committee and the City Council.
To report to, and be repponsible to the Police Com-
mvttee and the City Council o. Longwood, Florida.
To assist the City Council in organizing and
maintaining a police force.
(4) The Director of Public Safety shall have all
the poi/ecs, rights and obligations, except where incon-
s.stent with the powezs and duties of his job, as a:e
accorded a police officer of the City of Longwood, Florida.
(i) ^ahis resolution shall take effect itneai ately
upon its passage and adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a spacial meeting of The City Council
of the City of Longwood, Florida, this lath. day of April, A.D.,
1914.
