FLORIDA, PDRSUANT TO ARTICLE X, SECTION
10.01 (A), PRO VIDING THAT SAID PROPOSED
AhIENDMENT'PO ARTICLE XII, ABOLISAWG
THF. PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT AND REIN-
S'fATING ASEPARATE POLICE DEPARTMENT
AND A SEPARATE FIRE DEPARTMENT, BE
SUBMITTED ON TtIE BALLOT TO TRF, VOTERS
AT THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD
ON TUESDAY, NOVF.MBF,R 4, 2003, PROVIDING
FOR SEVERABILITY, CONFLICTS AND
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Longwood, Plorida has
determined ilwould be beneficial ro the City ro abolish the Depatment ofPublie Safety
and the position ofDirector of Public Safety antl m reestablish a separate Police
Department that will be direcled by e Police Chiefand a separate Fire Deparbent that
will be directed by a Pve Cbief; mtd
WHEREAS, the Public Safety Department, headed by a Director of
Public Safety is esublished in the Ciry Charter and an amendment is required in oMer to
abolish said department and said position and for Ne reestablishment of a sepaate
Police Department that will be headed by a Police Chief and a separam Fve Deparunenl
that will ba headed by a Firo Cldef,'
NOW, THEREFORE, BE 17 ORDAINED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF TAE CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That Article;C1, Public Safety Department, Sections
12 OI duougb and inclutling Section 12.06 is hereby deleted in its entirety antl replaced
with the following:

Sec. 12.01 Created.
There is hereby established and created a separate police tlepartrnenl and
a separate fire dapardnent of [he Ciry of Longwood, Plorida.

Sec. 12.02. Department heads.
The head of the police daparonent shall have the title of policoehief end
the head of the fire departrnent shall have We title of fire chief.
$ec. 12.03 Members.
The police departrnent shall consist of not less than nvo and two-tenths
(2.2) officers per thomand (1,000) population or suelr other members az shall
be determined by Ne Ciry Commission.
