A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA, DEDICAi'ING AND
RENAMING HEROES PARK THE STROHSAL-.IACKSON
MEMORIAL PARK, AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, Sergeant Karl Strohsal's law enforcement career spanned nearly thirty-two
years, eighteen of which were in service with the Longwood Police Department before it so
tragically came to an end; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Strohsal was an outstanding Police Officer, committed family
man, and loyal friend; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Strohsal was killed while directing traffic at the scene of an
automobile crash that lie was involved in during the early morning horns of July 144, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Chief of Police, Thomas S. Jackson, Jr., after twenty-eight years of service
to the Longwood Coininunity retired on May 28, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Chief Jackson has achieved many great accoinplislunents during his tenure
and was appointed Chief of Police in December 1997; and
WHEREAS, Chief Jackson ran the Longwood Police Department with steadfast
dedication and loyalty with an allegiance to law enforcement and a profound vision for safety in
the City of Longwood and the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMSSION OF THE
CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the Heroes Park be officially renamed the "Strohsal-Jackson
Memorial Park" in memory of Sergeant Karl Strohsal and in acknowledgement and appreciation
of Chief Thomas S. Jackson, Jr. for their many contributions and dedicated service to the City of
Longwood.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect inmiediately upon its passage and
adoption.
