A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION IOF
THE CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA
EXPRESSING THANKS FOR THE SERVICE OF
DON ESLINGER, JR. AND EXPRESSING THE
THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS OF THE CITIZENS OF
LONGWOOD FOR HIS SPEEDY AND FULL
RECOVERY.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Longwood had the upmost
respect for the Sheriff of Seminole County, Don Eslinger, who has served the citizens of
the City of Longwood well; and
WHEREAS, Sheriff Eslinger's son, Don Eslinger, Jr., followed his father's
example in service to his fellow citizens and joined the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, .Don Eslinger, Jr. completed infantry training at Fort Benning,
Georgia and was assigned to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, where he is stationed being
assigned to the 15t Battalion, 240' Infantry Regiment of the I" Stryker Brigade Combat
Team, 25th Infantry Division, Bravo Company; and
WHEREAS, Don Eslinger, Jr. was deployed in April of this year and was
scheduled to remain overseas fiom one year to fifteen months as a member of the Stryker
Brigade; and
WHEREAS, Don Eslinger, Jr.'s unit was assigned to three southeastern
Afghanistan provinces, which include the city of Kandahar and he and his •fellow soldiers
were specifically trained for the role of fighting on foot, or "boots on the_ ground," to
engage the enemy face-to-face; and
WHEREAS, Don Eslinger, Jr.'s unit was attacked by the- enemy' and he was
injured and will soon be transported back to the United States for recovery; and ,
WHEREAS, Don Eslinger, Jr. is made of strong character and1heroic fiber and is
mentally and physically prepared to handle his recovery, the City Commission of the City
of Longwood would like to add the thoughts and prayers of the citizens of Longwood for
the speedy recovery of Don Eslinger, Jr.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMM1ISSION
OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:

(a). The City Commission of the City of Longwood hereby expresses its
appreciation and admiration for the courageous and selfless service of Don Eslinger, Jr.
and his brothers in combat who brave the dangers of combat against the enemies of our
Nation.
(b). The City Commission of the City of Longwood hereby conveys the
thoughts and prayers of the citizens of the City of Longwood for the speedy and full
recovery of Don Eslinger, Jr. and urges all citizens of the City to honor the service of
Don Eslinger, Jr. and his brothers in arms in every appropriate means and to convey such
appreciation to the family of Don Eslinger, Jr. and other families whose loved ones serve
our Nation in harm's way.
SECTION 2. Effective Rate. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
passage and adoption.
