1. CALL TO ORDER — 7:00pm

3. STAFF REPORT
a. The City of Longwood Meals on program is going well.
b. City of Longwood "Ball Room Dance Club" meets at the school every Sunday
evening. It will be being cancelled on Father's Day.
c. Downtown Longwood Cruise In is held the second Saturday of the month. The next
event is on June 9, 2012 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Church Avenue. The July
Car Show celebrates "National Collector Car Appreciation Day ".
d. The Food Truck Bazaar will be held on the first and third Saturday of the month
from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Church Avenue. The City of Longwood started out
with thirteen trucks. We have had to cut back to five trucks until our crowd builds.

e. City of Longwood "Summer Camp" started the first week in June. We currently
have approximately 66 campers enrolled.
f. The City of Longwood Leisure Services Department has a "Theater Camp" that is
renting space at "Longwood Elementary School" for their Summer Camp program.
g. David Steward from "MVP Sports" will be holding sports clinics later this summer
and hopefully will be offering a "Mommy and Me" program for preschoolers later
this fall.
h. City of Longwood will be hosting a "Father/Daughter Dance" on July 12, 2012 from
7 pm until 9 pm. The price is $5 per couple and $2.50 for each additional guest.
This will be located at the Longwood Community Building.
i. The City of Longwood will hold a "Family Movie Night" at 7 pm at the Longwood
Community Building on July 10, 17, 24, 31. This will be a free event.
j. The City of Longwood will be raising money to cover the cost to bring the Senator
"clone" to Reiter Park. The cost is $12, 500 and all funds will be received thru
donations.
Member Putz asked why the City of Longwood needed one since Seminole
County will be installing one at "Big Tree Park ". He also asked how many
clones exist. Ms. Meli replied there were seven originally. Currently the
grower has five available. Ms. Meli also stated that installing a tree was
Commission's desire.
Member Coad asked where the tree was going to be installed. Ms. Meli
replied Reiter Park near a pond. Member Coad stated that we need to raise
the funds for the tree, but the City needs to hold off until the park is under
construction and ready for the installation of the tree, not install the tree
then build and have the tree damaged.
Mayor Sackett stated that he will personally walk the fliers around to raise
funds for installing the tree. He also agreed the tree should be installed after
construction is complete.
Chair Rice asked what was the deadline to raise the funds to buy the tree.
Ms. Meli replied to get the tree for January or February the City has a
month to raise the funds. Mayor Sacket also stated there is a process to
prepare the root ball; this is usually a four to six month process.
Ms. Meli stated that staff met with South Seminole Hospital helicopter staff
about the tree being installed, a tree or structure does not need to have a
blinking light until it is two hundred feet.
k. National Night Out will be held on August 7 2012. The Annual Police/Fire softball
game will be played. We will have bounce houses and many vendors handing out
free stuff and selling items. Winn Dixie has sponsored all food that will be handed
out.

Member Coad moved to approve with corrections. Seconded by Vice Chair Bright,
carried by a unanimous voice vote with Member Shoemaker absent.
Vice Chair Bright made a motion to discuss "A Community Affair" special event at
a later date. Seconded by Member Coad. Passed with 6 -0 -1 voice vote.
B. DISCUSS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS FOR BUDGET
Ms. Meli asked the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Members what they want
to do with Arbor Park inference to the toddler playground equipment.
Member Coad asked if the playground equipment from Arbor Park could be moved
to another location. Ms. Meli replied the equipment is old but still safe to be used.
Ms. Meli's question is does the board want to replace current equipment or just
remove the equipment from this park.
Vice Chair Bright asked what the cost would be to replace the current equipment at
Arbor Park. Ms. Meli replied about $50,000.
Ms. Meli confirmed the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board's discussion to keep a
toddler playground area with new equipment at Arbor Park enclosed with a fence.
Ms. Meli updated the board about Raven Park, that the city has removed the
playground equipment because the equipment was unsafe. Ms. Meli asked the
board if the city could remove the fence between the park and city property. Ms.
Meli suggested installing the picnic area with benches and a grill. Vice Chair Bright
asked what would be the cost to purchase a picnic table, bench and grill? Ms. Meli
replied the cost would be under $2000.00
Ms. Meli is going to add one shade structure to the budget.
C. DOG PARK
Ms. Meli explained to the board that Leisure Services has $33,000 budgeted for
building a Dog Park. The grant money was not funded this year.
Member Coad asked what the cost would be to do a basic Dog Park. Ms. Meli
replied $30,000 for fencing and benches but won't cover the price for a sidewalk.
Ms. Meli stated the Dog Park will have a small dog area and large dog area.
Member Coad made motion to build a Dog Park at Arbor Park second by Vice
Chair Bright passed 5 -1 -1 with Member Putz against.
5. BOARD UPDATES
Member Putz asked for the board to be updated on car break -ins at Candyland Park. Ms.
Meli replied that the last break -in happen during tournaments and a resident noticed the
kids and scared them away. Ms. Meli stated the car break -ins at Candyland Park are not a
new issue. This has gone on for years.

'Vice Chair Bright updated the board on the memorial project, would like to try this project
iin the dog park. Ms. Meli asked if other cities charge for actual cost for memorial items.
'Vice Chair Bright stated other cities tend to charge more than. they actually cost.
Ms. Meli asked for board members to start to think about an "Adopt a Park" program.
