1. CALL TO ORDER. 7:03 pm
2. PUBLIC INPUT. — None
3. ELECTION OF OFFICERS TO CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR.
Member Coad nominated Member Rice for Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Chair,
seconded by Member Bevis. Passed 4-0-3

seconded by Member Rice. Passed 4-0-3
4. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FROM CITY OF LONGWOOD FIRE MARSHAL LILLIAN
SEXTON.
a) Chair Rice asked Ms. Sexton what her role would be in helping with the "Chili Cook
OfP'. Ms. Sexton replied, "the fire and life safety"
b) Ms. Meli explained to the Board that the Longwood Fire Department will be supplying
all the fire extinguishers that are need for the "Chili Cook Off' for the day of event to all
participants.
c) Ms. Meli spoke to the health department; their suggestion for the event is to have a hand
washing station. Ms. Meli explained that both the Chamber and Community Building
would be open for restroom use. Ms. Sexton suggested having hand sanitizers around
also.
d) Ms. Sexton asked the Board where the "Chili Cook OW' will be set up. Chair Rice
replied in downtown parking lot across from the community building. Ms. Sexton
explained that all grills need to be set up ten feet from any building.
e) Ms. Sexton asked the Board if tents are going to be used. Vice Chair Bevis replied yes,
since it will be September. Ms. Sexton said to stick to a 10 x 10 tent so no permits will be
needed to be pulled. Ms. Sexton suggested no open flames under the tents.
Ms. Sexton left the meeting at 7:16 pm
5. STAFF REPORT.
a) Celebrate the Season was well attended there were over two hundred people ice skating
throughout the evening. Chair Rice suggested moving the generator to another location.
Chair Rice also suggested the fire engine park at another location because it created a
barrier to the crafts. Ms. Meli stated next year the craft tables will be set up so children can
use both sides of the table and all helpers will be located at the end of the table.
b) Movie In the Park was "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" all had a great turn out.
c) Downtown Longwood Cruise -In — Second Saturday of the month from 4:00 pm until 8:00
pm on Church Avenue.
d) Reiter Park -Ms. Meli updated the Board on the time line of the projector. Contractor will
have five months to complete the project. The park will have a new tennis court, basketball
court, playground, little fishing pier, walking paths, family pavilion, and handicap parking.
Vice Chair asked about the trails, Ms. Meli replied they are wide sidewalks. Vice Chair
asked where the fishing pier would be located, Ms. Meli replied in the open area of the pond
now. Member Coad wants to make sure there is a penalty phase for overage. Ms. Meli
replied the City's Attorney will be looking over the contact and then adding it into the
contract. Ms. Meli stated that there will be no in house work being done on Reiter Park.
Vice Chair Bevis asked if there would be bike racks located at the park. Ms. Meli
replied yes along with picnic tables.
e) Easter event will be on March 30th at Reiter Park. We will be partnering with Magic 107
and Covent Community Church. This year we are going to try a "Bunny Breakfast" at the
Longwood Community Building.
f) Dog Park -Ms. Meli stated she is going to be taking the Dog Park plan to the City
Commission on February 18t°. Ms. Meli asked the Board if they wanted to keep or remove
the toddler playground equipment. Chair Rice made a motion to keep the equipment in the
current location, Second by Member Ross. Looking to start work first of March.
g) Tree installation of a clone of the "Senator" which is fifteen years old will be done on
February 19`h at Reiter Park. The City of Longwood will install two irrigation heads for the
tree. The tree will be installed 270 feet from the center of the Hero Monument due west into
Reiter Park.
6. ACTIONS ITEMS.
a) APPROVE MINUTES FROM DECEMBER 4, 2012. Member Coad made a motion to
approve the minutes, and was second by Vice Chair Bevis, the motion Passed 4-0-3
b) DISCUSSION ON CHILI -COOK OFF.
Ms. Meli asked when the Board wanted to present the "Chili Cook Owl to the City
Commission. The Board agreed the second meeting in March.
Chair Rice would like to see all "Scouting" groups that meet at Longwood Elementary School to do
a community service project around the City of Longwood to offset free meeting space.
Member Coad wanted to know what we are doing for Christmas Lights next year. Ms. Meli stated
we will need to come up with a scope of services and bid the project out.
