1) CALL TO ORDER. 7:00 pm
2) PUBLIC INPUT. — None
3) STAFF REPORT.
a) Magic 107.7 Easer Egg Hunt and Bunny Breakfast — The Easter Egg Hunt had over
12,000 attendees and the Bunny breakfast had close to 200 for all of the reservation
times.
b) Reiter Park phase 1 starts this week.
c) Arbor Park Dog Park is moving along. The fence is up and the playground equipment
was removed and will be discarded with the exception of 2 pieces. We will be looking to
put in the water lines for the 2 fountains, purchasing doggy clean up stations and
signage.
d) Downtown Longwood Cruise In — The next one is Saturday April 13th from 5:00 pm
until 8:00 pm on Church Avenue.
e) Senior Matinee— Third Wednesday of the month, April 17, 2013 at 1:30 in the
Commission Chambers. Showing "Big Daddy".
f) ID Cards — Photos were taken by Mr. Capizzi, of the board members present, so each
board member can have all ID card to represent them as a board member from the City
of Longwood.
Member Coad mentioned for next year's egg hunt event, that handicap parking be made
more visible.
Chair Rice asked about what was the cost for the City of Longwood for the Easter Event.
Mr. Capizzi replied he would get this report out to the board via email.
Member Coad would like a thank you note sent to Magic 107 and Covenant Community
Church.
Member Coad would like a picture of the play equipment going into Reiter Park.
Mr. Capizzi suggested going to the contractor's website for updates www.collap-e-us.com
Mr. Capizzi updated the Board about Arbor Park (Dog Park) that the City of Longwood
will be installing benches, water areas and dog waste stations in the park area. Chair
Rice suggested a trash can be placed outside the dog area in the parking lot.
Member Coad inquired about the attendance at the Senior Matinees. Mr. Capizzi stated
it varies from month to month, six to twenty five. Member Coad asked what the cost to
host this event is. Mr. Capizzi stated just the cost of the movie. We have a sponsor
supply the snacks for the movie. Member Coad would like a thank you note sent to the
senior movie sponsor.
Chair Rice welcomed Arlene Gilman to the Parks and Recreation Board, as the newest
Member.
4) ACTIONS ITEMS.
a) APPROVE MINUTES FROM March 5, 2013. Member Coad made a motion to approve the
minutes, and was seconded by Member Bright; the motion Passed 6-0-1.
b) DISCUSSION ON CHILI -COOK OFF.
i) Plan and Milestone Coordinator will be handled by Member Bright
ii) Media Coordinator will be handled by Chair Rice
iii) Participate and Registration Coordinator will be handled by Member Ross
iv) Attendees kit Coordinator will be handled by Member Coad
v) Sponsorship Coordinator will be handled by Member Putz
vi) Kid Zone area Coordinator will be handled by Vice Chair Bevis
Mr. Capizzi will look into ways of pre -selling tickets for the Chili Cook -Off. The Board suggested
having the receptionist at City Hall sell tickets and Leisure Services will also pre -sell tickets at
Longwood Elementary School.
Member Bright will finish the Chili Cook -Off logo and have it ready so Member Coad can look into
pricing of making shirts.
Mr. Capizzi will let the Board know what staff cost would be to work the Chili Cook -Off.
Member Coad discussed what the City of Longwood was going to do for holiday lights this season.
Mr. Capizzi stated this will need to be bid out this year and he will also get with Mr. Williams.
Chair Rice discussed putting up new banners on Ronald Regan Road all year. Mr. Capizzi will be
looking into this and get back to the Board.
Chair Rice asked if Mr. Capizzi could send the Board the link of the commercial that was made of
the City of Longwood that was aired on the cable channel. Mr. Capizzi said he would ask Ms.
Longo in the City Administrators office.
5) ADJOURNMENT. 8:46 p.m.
Member Coad motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:46 p.m.
