1) CALL TO ORDER. 7:03 pm
2) Moment of Silence in honor of Mrs. Fran Meli.
3) PUBLIC INPUT. — None
4) STAFF REPORT.
National Night Out was held on August 6, 2013. We had approximately 600 people in
attendance. The Longwood Police Department came close in the annual Police
Department /Fire Department softball game.
Chair Rice suggested for the next year National Night Out we contact different club
groups to be involved, maybe a Ms. and Mr. Longwood for a young kids contest.
Different ways to bring young people in to get involved.
Car Show was on August 10, 2013 there were approximately 150 — 200 cars. We also had a
band playing during the event along with the DJ. We also had a table set up to sell chili cook
off tickets.
The Dog Park Grand Opening will be held on Friday August 23, 2013 at five o'clock. We will
have many vet clinics in attendance and also Gary Adams who is a dog trainer, which will be
partnering with the City of Longwood.
New Lighting is almost complete at Candyland Park and Field One renovations are just about
finished. The City of Longwood is looking to possibly install the old Musco lights that were
removed from Candyland park and reinstall in the historic district so they can be turned on
for special events in the Historic District.
Reiter Park should be done by early September, so having Halloween at the park won't be a
problem.
Chair Rice asked what the new sand hill in Reiter Park is for. Mr. Capizzi replied that
this is a children play hill. Member Coad asked about park rules. Mr. Capizzi stated
the City of Longwood will have a professional sign installed. He also stated the park
will be a dawn to dusk park.
Holiday Lights winning bidder was Clark Sales Display. They will be decorating all City
buildings including the Fire and Police stations, along State Road 434, the clock tower and
installing a Christmas tree in front of the Community Building.
Chair Rice made a motion for September 28, 2013 as a suggested Reiter Park grand opening,
Seconded by Member Bright. Passed 5 -0 -2 with Member Bevis and Member Creston absent.
5) ACTIONS ITEMS.
a) Approve Minutes from July 9, 2013 Regular Meeting. Member Ross moved to approve the
minutes. Seconded by Member Putz. Passed 5 -00.2 with Member Bevis and Member
Creston absent.
b) DISCUSSION ON CIELI -COOK OFF.
Member Bright made a motion not to rope off the area for the Chili Cook Off. Seconded by
Member Putz 4 -0 -1 -2 with Member Bevis and Member Creston absent.
The Board agreed to order 300 buttons to give away to participates at the Chili Cook Off.
Board agree to sell T- shirts for $10 each at the Chili Cook Off. The Board members will
receive a T -shirt to wear during the Chili Cook Off.
The Board tabled what position to work during the Chili Cook Off.
The Board agreed to sell left over soda from National Night Out and water for one dollar
during the Chili Cook Off.
Member Bright made a motion to increase prize money for the winners from the Chili Cook
Off to $150.00 for first place, $100.00 for second place, $75.00 for third place, seconded by
Member Putz, passed 4 -0-3 with Member Bevis, Member Creston and Member Ross absent.
The City of Longwood Halloween event will be on Saturday October 26, 2013.
6) AJOURNMENT. -8:50 pm
Chair Rice motioned to adjourn. Seconded by Member Putz at 8:50 pm.
