LOCATION: Longwood Commission Chamber 175 West Warren Avenue Longwood, FL 32750 Minutes Present: Lori Rice, Chair Judi Coad, Member Cathy Ross, Member Dave Putz, Member Nikki Bright, Member Chris Capizzi, Acting Leisure Services Director Karen Behling, Recording Secretary Absent: Steven Creston, Member 1) CALL TO ORDER. 7:00 pm 2) PUBLIC INPUT. — None 3) STAFF REPORT. Mr. Capizzi stated all the required information for the FRDAP Grant was turned in by September 30th by the deadline. If we are awarded this grant the City of Longwood is going to finish the lighting project at Candyland Park. Chili Cook- Off was a great success; the event was well attended and all Board Members did a fantastic job. Mr. Capizzi stated that Reiter Park is officially completed. The next Car Show will be held on October 12, 2013. We will also be hosting an Art Exhibit in the City Commission Chambers from 4pm to 7pm for the oil painting students that take classes at Longwood Elementary School every weekend. There will be no trailer lights for this show. Mr. Capizzi stated the annual Halloween event will be held on October 26, 2013 from 3pm until 5:30pm at Reiter Park. The ribbon cutting for the official grand opening of Reiter Park will be held at 2:30pm. 4) ACTION ITEMS. a) Approve Minutes from September 3, 2013 Regular Meeting. Member Putz moved to approve the minutes. Seconded by Member Coad. Passed 5 -0 -1 b) Discussion on Dog Park Grand Opening and Reiter Park Grand Opening. Mr. Capizzi suggested Dog Park 9am until loam, Chair Rice suggested 9am until llam, and Member Coad suggested 9am until 10:30am. Mr. Capizzi stated we will be partnering with a Dog Trainer to hold training lessons at the park for a charger starting in November. The Dog Trainer will be doing a split of 50% to the trainer, 25% to the City of Longwood, and 25% to TEARS. of money. Member Bright agrees hosting the grand opening event from 9am until 10:30am. Member Coad suggested after the ribbon cutting have the dog trainer do a demonstration. Member Putz suggested holding the event from 9am until loam and allowing guests to stay later if they choose to. Chair Rice suggested hanging a banner at the Park advertising the grand opening. Member Putz made a motion to hold the grand opening of the Dog Park between 9am until 10:30am with the option of Mr. Capizzi to extend until 11 am after speaking to the vendors. Seconded by Chair Rice passed 5 -0 -1. Mr. Capizzi stated during the Reiter Park Grand Opening will also be holding a Tree dedication for Senator II. Member Bright asked if we have a plaque with the name of the tree and the history behind the tree. Mr. Capizzi said yes this is something we could put up. Member Bright suggested maybe a temporary sign for the ribbon cutting. Member Ross asked if there was going to be a fence installed around the tree to protect it. Chair Rice asked what Mr. Capizzi thoughts are for the grand opening of the Park. Mr. Capizzi stated at the ribbon cutting in the entrance way of the playground area, have the Mayor make a statement of the history of the Park. Member Bright would like all the Board Members joining in on the cutting of the ribbon. Chair Rice wants to know how Mr. Capizzi will be advertising for this event. Mr. Capizzi will have a banner made and installed in the same area of the Car Show banners at the corner of Ronald Reagan and Warren/Church Street and the fence along the tennis courts at Reiter Park. Advertising can be down on Facebook, the newspaper, email HOA and have Babe Ruth make announcements. The Board agreed to hold the grand opening starting at 2:30pm. The Halloween Event will have two bounce houses, rock wall, food and the cars for the Trunk or Treat event. The stage for the costume contest will be installed at the top of the hill this year. Chair Rice asked if there would be a radio station at the Halloween Event. Mr. Capizzi stated yes, Magic 107.7. c) Discussion on Chili Cook -Off. The board reviewed an updated spreadsheet for the expenses and revenue made. Mr. Capizzi stated the City of Longwood will still be receiving a check for seventy -five dollars from Show Tix for the online sales. We made a profit from the Chili Cook -Off. Mr. Capizzi stated that thank you letters were sent out to the sponsors, cookers, and Board Members. Member Ross suggested for next year doing away with either the wrist bands or the tickets for proof of purchase to be a taster. The Board discussed the amount a business pays to be a cooker. The Board agrees that the 2013 Chili Cook -Off is a self - sustaining event.
