LOCATION: Longwood Commission Chamber 175 West Warren Avenue Longwood, FL 32750 Minutes Present: Judi Coad, Member Terry Peterson, Member Cathy Ross, Member Dave Putz, Member Chris Capizzi, Leisure Services Director Karen Behling, Recording Secretary Absent: Steven Croston, Member Nikki Bright, Vice Chair Lori Rice, Chair 1) CALL TO ORDER - Member Putz called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm 2) PUBLIC INPUT — None 3) STAFF REPORT Mr. Capizzi stated the next Car Show will be held on January 10, 2014 from 5p.m. until 8p.m. This show will also have tower lights. Mr. Capizzi stated the senior movie will be held in the Longwood Community Building on Wednesday January 15, 2014 at 1:30p.m. The movie will be "Ocean's eleven". Mr. Capizzi stated the pavilion at Magnolia Park will be sanded and repainted during the second week in January. Mr. Capizzi stated the money from the Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant for Reiter Park should come in by the end of March 2014. We should also find out about the FRDAP Grant that the City of Longwood applied for some time this April 2014, if we have been awarded any funds. Member Coad asked about the status of the fence around the Senator II tree at Reiter Park. Mr. Capizzi replied this item will need to go in front of the Commission for discussion and will need to be discussed with Dix - Lathrop. Member Coad asked if the City has electrical power in the gazebo across the street from the Longwood Community Building. Mr. Capizzi said yes we have an electrical box next to the gazebo and the fan also has the capacity of having a light kit installed. Member Coad asked about what the problem was with lighting the tree. Mr. Capizzi replied the surge protector that was provided by the Contractor didn't have enough amps to run the tree and the building at the same time. We used a generator that was on the fire truck to run the tree during the event then we purchased two separate new surge protectors to put on timers to use for the rest of the season. Member Putz asked about having a portable toilet installed at Reiter Park. Mr. Capizzi stated the City of Longwood will look into this expense and get back to the Board. The restroom to be permanently installed is slated for Phase III of the Reiter Park Project. Member Putz asked about swings being added to Reiter Park. Mr. Capizzi stated this topic was discussed at the City Commission Meeting on Monday January 6 He also stated there is always a discussion of liability that Risk Management is concerned about. Member Putz asked about what the City of Longwood is planning for shade at Reiter Park. Mr. Capizzi stated that currently there is nothing planned for any shade structures but during the second phase of the park we are planning to add a tree canopy section. Member Coad asked about changing the sign at Reiter Park. Mr. Capizzi stated we have drafted a new sign for the park that the City of Longwood will need to run thru Dix - Lathrop for approval. Member Coad asked how the Dog Park is doing. Mr. Capizzi stated the Park is always busy, the dog training program has been put on hold while some litigation is finalize with a previous employee this program should be starting back up soon. Member Coad suggested once the City of Longwood has a restart dated for the dog trainer that the local Vet offices be notified and fliers placed in their offices. Member Coad asked about staff at Longwood Elementary School. Mr. Capizzi stated we currently have three part time employees to oversee Longwood Elementary School and Longwood Community Building. Member Coad asked if the City of Longwood have any new programs that have started since January. Mr. Capizzi stated that the City of Longwood will be starting a new children's art program in February. The City of Longwood will be hosting the "Wekiva River Players" summer camp again this year. 4) ACTIONS ITEMS. A. APPROVE MINUTES FROM DECEMBER 3, 2013 REGULAR MEETING. Member Putz motion to approve, seconded by Member Ross. Passed 3 -0 -1 -3 B. ELECTION OF OFFICERS TO CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR. Member Putz motion to postpone Elections to the next Board meeting which will be held on February 4, 2014, seconded by Member Coad.
