A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITE'- OF
LONGWOOD, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING A TRANSPORTATION,
INVESTMENT GENERATING ECONOMIC RECOVERY GRANT FOB
REGIONAL PEDESTRIAN SAFETY PROJECTS; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE. "
WHEREAS, "Dangerous by Design" and other national reports have consistently ranked Metro
Orlando as one of the nation's worst areas for pedestrian safety; and
WHEREAS, Longwood has joined together with Orange County, the Florida Department of
Transportation, Winter Park, Orlando, and an ever-expanding list of partners to submit a pre -
application to the U.S. Department of Transportation entitled the "Orlando Regional Multimodal
Pedestrian Safety Program," and
WHEREAS, submittal of the Regional Multimodal Pedestrian Safety Program application
would request TIGER V grant funding to provide essential pedestrian safety construction
projects throughout the Orlando region for the benefit and safety of pedestrians and citizens, and
WHEREAS, the City of Longwood looks to create jobs and promote economic development by
connecting the SunRail Station and surrounding Transit -Oriented Development to surrounding
neighborhoods and the regional trail system including the Seminole-Wekiva Trail and the Cross
Seminole Trail, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Longwood,
Florida, as follows.
Section I. The City Commission expresses their support for and participation in the Orlando
Regional Multimodal Pedestrian Safety Program Application and urges the U.S Department of
Transportation to favorably consider this request. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign any
applicable documents related to this application.
Section H. Conflicts. Any resolutions or policies in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
Section III: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
