19-1496 Establishing a Charter Advisory CommitteeRESOLUTION NO. 19-1496 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD ESTABLISHING A CHARTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR SUNSET AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 10.01(c), City of Longwood Charter, the Cir Commission hereby creates a temporary five member Charter Advisory Committee for the purpose of evaluating the City Charter for potential amendments and making recommendations concerning the same to the City Commission; and - = WHEREAS, the Longwood City Commission finds that this Resolution is in the best interest and welfare of the residents of the City of Longwood. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Recitals. The above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated herein by this reference. Section 2. Creation. The City Commission hereby creates the Charter Advisory Committee ("Committee") for the purpose of evaluating the City Charter for potential amendments and making recommendations concerning the same to the City Commission. The Committee is an ad hoc committee which is intended to sunset as set forth herein. The Committee shall consist of five (5) members. There shall be a member on the Committee representing each of the five Commission Districts. Each Commissioner shall nominate for appointment a member to the Committee for approval by the City Commission. The Committee meetings shall be open to the public and generally conducted in accordance with the provisions of Section 2-313, City of Longwood Code of Ordinances. The Committee shall elect from its membership a Chair and Vice Chair. The recommendations of the Committee to the City Commission must be approved by a majority vote of the Committee. The City Manager, City Clerk and City Attorney shall provide reasonable assistance to the Committee as needed. Section 3. Sunset. The Charter Advisory Committee shall sunset and terminate one year from the date of the first meeting the Charter Advisory Committee holds, unless terminated earlier or extended by majority vote of the City Commission. Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED and ADOPTED this 4th day of March, 2019.
