20-1517 Establishes Business Tax Receipt Study CommitteeRESOLUTION NO. 20-1517 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD ESTABLISHING A BUSINESS TAX RECEIPT STUDY COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR SUNSET AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, in accordance with Florida Statutes 205.0535, the City Commission hereby creates a temporary Business Tax Receipt Study Committee for the purpose of recommending a revised classification system and rate structure for business taxes to the City Commission; and WHEREAS, the Longwood City Commission finds that this Resolution is in the best interest and welfare of the residents of the City of Longwood. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LONGWOOD, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Recitals. The above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated herein by this reference. Section 2. Creation. The City Commission hereby creates the Business Tax Receipt Study Committee ("Committee") for the purpose of recommending a revised classification system and rate structure for business taxes to the City Commission pursuant to FS 205.0535. The Committee is an ad hoc committee which is intended to sunset as set forth herein. The Committee shall consist of at least seven (7) members as selected by the City Commission. A roster of 9 members has been provided in "Exhibit A" to make up the committee. Each member of the study commission must be a representative of the business community within the City of Longwood. The Committee meetings shall be open to the public and generally conducted in accordance with the provisions of Section 2-313, City of Longwood Code of Ordinances. The Committee shall elect from its membership a Chair and Vice Chair. The recommendations of the Committee to the City Commission must be approved by a majority vote of the Committee. The City Manager, City Clerk and City Attorney shall provide reasonable assistance to the Committee as needed. Section 3. Sunset. The Business Tax Receipt Study Committee shall sunset and terminate six months from the date of the first meeting the Business Tax Receipt Study Committee holds, unless terminated earlier or extended by majority vote of the City Commission. Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. PASSED and ADOPTED this 3rd day of February, 2020.
